Wade Garrett
One would assume that the orbital bombardment the Wolves opened the fight with would have been directed mainly at said inactive defenses, as the Wolves wouldn't need to keep the defense grid intact to blow up the star like the Word Bearers at Calth. Lonewolf86
On the subject of the wolves' losses; The Thousand Sons stood at about 11,000 iirc at the start of the battle and lost about 10,000 astartes in the razing. I would guess that because of the beating they could put out with psychic powers, the titan, the small losses the wolves would take in terms of downed ships and drop ships and the small losses inflicted by the spireguard that the Wolves could have lost 20,000 by the end. Plus however many 13th chased after Magnus. Then in Scars they get a beating (though not severe, more through being outnumbered and outgunned). They will have lost ships though maybe more smaller ones that won't be stocked full of astartes and it sounded like more ships got smashed up rather than outright destroyed. So maybe (going of Phall type casualty figures) they could have lost a further 5 maybe 10 thousand? How many strong were they thought to be pre-heresy? I'd have thought at least 70k more like 80k to have any credibility (even in their eyes) as the sanctioners and executioners. Only the Thousand Sons could rock the 'small but powerful' look as they have psychic abilities to make up for it. So I would think there were still 50k Wolves raring to go but perhaps limited by their crippled fleet. Thoughts? GhostMalone
Even if that's correct after istvaan 3 iirc the SoH stood at 130000 and that's not even right as Horus was increasing recruitment rediculously and also has the death guard approx 170000 iirc. That's 1/6 without adding chaos boons/allies Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287439-vengeful-spirit/page/5/#findComment-3608431 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
One thing to note is that the numbers are being retconned. Supposedly they have been increased in the hardcover editions of A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns, in order to keep up with the ever-increasing numbers. So that "11,000" could be a lot higher now. EDIT: Before Istvaan III, the SoH stood at something like 130,000 but were estimated to have been decreased to 60,000-70,000 afterwards. And 130,000 was considered the bigger end of the spectrum for Legion size. The Iron Hands were 113,000 at Istvaan V and were considered "medium-sized". The only reason the Night Lords Legion was considered "big" even though the estimates of their numbers at Istvaan V fluctuated from 90,000-120,000 was because they still managed to maintain a presence in the Eastern Fringe while the majority of their Legion was at Istvaan V. Meanwhile, we have the Word Bearers at 140,000 just at Istvaan V and managing to pump out numbers to match the Ultramarines, who were at 250,000, body for body. Meanwhile, we get the Salamanders who recruited from Terra, Nocturne and Proximal, a fief world, and were considered the smallest Legion at 89,000. So with the high end being say, 120,000 and the low end being 90,000, both the Wolves and Sons would be made to fit somewhere in that category before the Razing, most likely closer to the lower end of the spectrum. hopkins
can we just talk about VS and leave the logistics on another thread? severian is with the KE. it's a real motley crue loken is having visions of a hooded man asking him to kill him i think this is torgaddon, which helps with tormageddon being the lead luperci, or twin flames as they're also known war rages on molech the crippled brother has just killed the mother lots of slaanesh overtones, but no kint of house devine or anyone on molech going over to the traitors horus finds a lake beneath a mountain and a psychic guardian of some sorts left by the emperor gives the mournival a good kicking horus kills it and finds out what the emperor tried to mindwipe from him it's yet to be revealed, but something to do with human origin, or maybe primarch/astartes origin, and ascension whatever it is, it's what he needs to fight a god Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287439-vengeful-spirit/page/5/#findComment-3608442 Share on other sites

Castrmen Orth
to be honest i have liked nearly everything thathas been written in the heresy so far, cannot get enough of it. but even so i think the quality of the recent books has been great, vulkan lives, unremembered empire, scars and now it appears vengeful spirit. trying not to read the spoiler tags but the temptation is getting to much Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287439-vengeful-spirit/page/5/#findComment-3608469 Share on other sites

I always wondered what the Big E was doing during the Dark Age of Technology. Conn Eremon
I'm curious about the pronunciation on 'Luperci.' I've always pronounced 'Lupercal' as "Lew-per-kal' rather than 'Lew-per-sal.'
