Kilofix
Just starting GKs. For a list about 1850 pts., I already have and plan on using: Cotaez. Bunch of Acolytes (IG models). Firestorm Redoubt (for anti-air). Allied Imperial Knight (Thermal version for anti-armor). What else do I need model-wise at a minimum to build a decent list? 10 GKTs? 10 GKSSs? Or do I need 20? 1 NDK enough? With the Knight, Redoubt and an NDK, will I really need an LR or SR? Will I likely need other types of Henchmen? I really dont want to get Jokaero. Thanks for the opinions. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287469-some-help-with-what-models-to-buy/ Share on other sites

Bloodgrin
Why a firestorm and not just an Aegis? Seems 100pts wasted that you can put into something else? It can not be manned meaning it cannot be aimed at will. Also Psyflemen, and a focus of how you want your army to flow then we can go from there. Shunt in vehicles? Deep Striking teriminators? Small quick combat squads hitting and moving? Reclusiarch Darius
Cotaez. Bunch of Acolytes (IG models). Firestorm Redoubt (for anti-air). Allied Imperial Knight (Thermal version for anti-armor). That's not really a Grey Knight list, that's practically a Guard army. Ditch the Allies and Forifications, don't need them. At 1,850 at most I'd bring an Aegis Line w/Quad Gun. 10 GKTs? 10 GKSSs? Or do I need 20? 1 NDK enough? You've got a couple of options. Purifiers are our best infantry choice, hands down. However, they're not scoring, so either you need to bring Strikes and/or Henchmen to shore up your scoring options, or bring a Grandmaster in HQ to give them scoring status. They'd also like a Raven, but you may not have points for it. Quad psycannon if you're taking them on foot, quad incinerator if you bring the Raven. Terminators are a great Troops choice, other armies would kill for it. However, they are expensive and further reduce your model count. I'd bring at most 10, in two seperate units. They're great for capping objectives and threatening the enemy on the flanks. Again though, they'd like a Raven to either land off its teleport homer or be transported inside it. Strikes are the cheapest option, and probably the least support-reliant. You just teleport them onto objectives, then camp and shoot the enemy. They're pretty mediocre in melee, but their shooting is significant (remember, always take two psycannons). Psy-bolts is a good choice, but it does jack up the cost of the squad. With the Knight, Redoubt and an NDK, will I really need an LR or SR? Dreadknights are our best unit, hands down. I'd take three, but even at 1850 at most you'll have two. I'd probably take a DK and a Raven, they can both project threat and are non-ignorable threats for your opponent. Landraiders have been bad for two editions straight now. So long as Hull Points and meltaguns exist, they will remain overwhelmingly mediocre. Will I likely need other types of Henchmen? I really dont want to get Jokaero. Plasma cannon servitors with ablative Acolytes (either naked or with storm bolters) make a great auxilary Troops choice to hold ground while your Grey Knights pressure the enemy. Jokaero are a personal choice, you either take a lot of them or none at all. An Aegis Line with Quad Gun is a great choice for either unit, especially with Coteaz manning the Quad Gun. Kilofix
Thanks for all the comments. Sorry, I wasn't clearer in my original post: I wasn't looking for a specific Army List but rather a list of models to buy. Cotaez, Acolytes, the Redoubt, and the Knight are models I already have that are options I could use for a GK list, not necessarily that I would use them all in a single list. Sounds like I shouldn't. Sounds like model-wise if I get 1 GM-HQ, 10 GKTs, maybe 20 GSSs, 2 NDKs and maybe an SR and I should have enough to build a few variations of good lists. That doesn't sound too bad for starting a new detachment. Thanks again! Yeah that's probably a good start. Don't forget to get 2 Dreads to try out PsyDreads as well.
