Inquisitor Solomon Lok paint scheme

I am starting a small inquisitor army. Mostly for modelling/paiting. Possibly for gaming, but I will not give too much thought of rules as I work with the models.

My starting point is to establish the colours of the inquisitor. Henchmen will pick colours to match him. I have used this miscast to have a first, quick try, and I am fairly happy with the choice of colours. I would want him somewhat darker, however. I guess I should pick a darker turquise and possibly replace some gold with Boltgun metal. I also consider painting his arms all black, or at least dropping the turquise on the upper arms.

Suggestions? Do people agree with me, that the black/purple/turquise/copper colour scheme works?

SAM 0930

For those considering buying this model: I suspect the molds might be approaching the end of their lifetime. Details on the model are not as crisp as on the pictures at Forgeworld, especially in the face/neck area. The replacement does not have the obvious errors of the miscast, but details are somewhat lacking. (Not that my painting skills do justice to the details anyway.)

As a follower of Slaanesh and with an EC army - I approve!

But seriously, while I do like it, have you thought 'bigger' - about whether you'll use the same paint scheme on Rhinos, Chimeras, Land Raiders, etc. if one day you decide to attach such, and also how it would look next to Xenos color schemes? (That said, I realize that Lok is currently MIA / KIA).

This will not be Solomon Lok, but an Ordo Malleus inquisitor. I guess the choice of colours are to lure your daemons forth...

I did not think as far as to the colours of xenos and daemons, to be honest. But I think it will be ok. It is not really a colour scheme for the army, but I want the army to tie to the inquisitor in various ways. His crusaders will likely be black/copper/purple. Psykers/sages/astropaths might have some turquise on them. Not sure. Standard henchmen/storm troopers will be mostly black or dark grey. I plan to have a walker or two. Those will likely be black and metals. I love metals. I have not even thought of tracked vehicles...

I'm actually going through the same process as I'm also starting an Inquisitor detachment.

On the one hand, I can paint the Inquisitor and his Henchmen all Red, and Grey / Metal - which would match any of the following that I will be allying (not all at the same time) with:

Grey Knights

Red Hunters

Adeptus Mechanicum

Imperial Knights

On the other hand, too much Red (especially if I also do Gold Trim) - makes it look Khornate. As too much Purple and Gold Trim on yours may conceivably make it look Slaaneshy.

So I was thinking of adding more Tan / Leather colors to both my Inquisitor and Henchmen, but then what would I do with his Land Raider? Do I want a Tan Land Raider?

Decisions, decisions.

On a separate note, don't you want an OM in Terminator armor with Psycannon? I'm trying to find one of the older metal OM Termi  bodies myself.

My "army" will be something in between a proper gaming army and the type of gangs you find in Blanchitsu. Henchmen are of so many varieties, and I do not find reason to keep them in uniform. I just want some colours to tie the unit together. I will not necessarily restrict myself to the same colours across all units or all individuals. An inquisitorial detachment is a mix of hive scum, elite specialists, weirdos and semi-mechanical constructs. The inquisitor may hire troops for the long term or short term, and demand contributions from all imperial organizations. Frankly, I see no need for keeping them all within one paint scheme. Even less do I see why you should feel obliged to colour match armies the inquisitor may ally with.

If I ever find time to expand to a proper army, I will have storm troopers in uniform and transports matching these. Transports will not necessarily match the gowns of the inquisitor, although there should be some colours to tie them together.

On the other hand, too much Red (especially if I also do Gold Trim) - makes it look Khornate. As too much Purple and Gold Trim on yours may conceivably make it look Slaaneshy.

Good points on the red and purple with gold trim. One should probably not paint up an army in those colours. But the paint schemes are good, and in a colourful army, it is difficult to avoid elements of colour combinations that cannot remind one of the combinations regularily found on some opponent.

I think extensive use of tan/leather may look con on an inqusition army. Especially if you use the colours on clothing/parchment/purity seals. Land raiders are not made of leather, so you do not have to use those colours on vehicles. And if you do, that might also be good. They would provide a nice canvas for heraldry, ornaments or freehand painting. (Edit: like this... http://www.toycutter.com/2010/08/warhammer-40k-renaisance-themed-space.html )

I do NOT want a terminator with a psycannon. I do not think my inquisitor can afford terminator armour. My preferences at this point have nothing to do with gaming, but everything to do with the visual and storytelling.
