Eternal Warrior
Because of a friends charity I am now in possession of six Grey Hunters on the sprues with all of the bitz and bobbles. I am going to be building a very small kill team force. So my question for the more venerable brethren is how should I build them? Also should I convert one into an HQ choice of some sort and if so which one? Thank you all for your wisdom Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287635-the-first-six/ Share on other sites
Vash113
Well for Kill Team you'd be best off building a Grey Hunter Pack, 6 strong, 1 special weapon and 1 model armed with a power weapon of some kind, I'd suggest an axe and pistol combination. Kill Team tops out at 200 points I believe. A fully kitted out 6 strong pack comes to 155, so maybe building one as a Lone Wolf with a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield perhaps, or a Wolf Claw and Storm Shield or something, could run you around the 200 points for a Kill Team. You could also potentially use the Lone Wolf as a Wolf Guard Battle Leader or Wolf Lord if you eventually decide to expand the force. Eternal Warrior
Maybe I should expound a little. By kill team I mean around 1000pts. I forgot that kill team rules were recently released. So with that in mind, Vash and others, will that change these first 6? Chronotonic
as in a separate squad of wolves to attach to your army already... 1 Wolf Battle Leader sage of the stacking attacks...haha 3 Wolf Blades power weapons galore... 1 Rune Caster jaws of the broken attack 1 Lone Wolf...I miss my brothers so no shooting guns just a big hammer and a bigger shield... man it has been awhile since I played wolves...I do miss them... Vash113
For a 1000 point list the build is still roughly the same. A 5 man Grey Hunter pack with a special weapon, wolf standard, power axe and plasma pistol and a Wolf Guard Battle Leader as your HQ. You can always later expand the 5 man pack to full strength without problem. Eternal Warrior
For sure and it will be fun making one the battle leader. Thunderhammer and stormshield you think? Any specific saga? Vash113
It depends on what you want him to do, Saga of the Hunter would allow him and a pack to Outflank, however Saga of the Bear is my favorite because it bestows Eternal Warrior. Rune Armor and a Storm Shield combined with Saga of the Bear makes for a very tough character but that's something I normally reserve for a Wolf Lord. The other alternative is Saga of the Warrior Born which allows you to add the number of enemy models slain by the character in the previous round of combat to his attacks in the following round. Obviously this is most effective with a character armed with 2 close combat weapons and stuck into a combat that lasts multiple rounds. A Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield are tough but do not grant the most attacks. Also of course no saga is an option, for their points if they do not accomplish what you want the character to do then simply don't take one. Most of my Battle Leaders do not have a Saga. Grey Mage
For a six man kill team Id go with Wolf Guard actually- its an elites, so its legal, and the base price runs only 108pts, giving plenty of room for upgrades if you have the bits.Id say a couple of combi-plasmas, a powerfist, and whatever combination you like of swords, axes, frosties and claws you like. Ooops.. for a small army really? Start off with a Grey Hunter pack- a plasma gun, a power axe or mark of the wulfen guy *to taste* and 4 regular marines as it were. You wont regret having more grey hunters, ever. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287635-the-first-six/#findComment-3611772 Share on other sites
Eternal Warrior
Thank you all. I'm beginning to think there is something to the 200pts list. Thank you all for your awesome suggestions. Rune Priest Jbickb
Kill team is wicked fun and how I got started. My kill team list for the current kill team rules (released in December I think) is as follows: Troop 5 grey hunters plasmagun motw power weapon 115 Elite Lone wolf motw, 2x plasma pistol, 2 pups 85 Powersword-leader Combat specialist furious charge if 5 is rolled Plasmagun-Weapons specialist (master crafted) Motw-dirty fighter (fleshbane) Lone wolf-guerilla specialist (preferred enemy) Interestingly enough it is 6 man all of which you could use later as effective units in a regular game. Feel free to edit or use as you like Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287635-the-first-six/#findComment-3612769 Share on other sites
