WIP Wolf Lord

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I wanted to share the beginnings of my newest Space Wolf army.

I plan to add lots of character and conversions, but naturally the place to start would be at the top with a Wolf Lord.

I will start off by saying, despite my 25 years in the hobby. I am still a complete beginner to using greenstuff for anything more than gap filling. So taking on a sculpt of a cloak was a pretty big deal. I will also freely admit that my brush work is not anywhere near as good as that of many of the artists around.

But enough babble here is my wolf lord.

That is where i am upto thus far. Though i hope to get some more done after work over the next few days.

Comments more than welcome, though please be gentle! :)

I am hoping (thought it will slow down the army build) to mix up lots of forge world armour bits across the wolfguard parts of my army as it grows. I want to give it a more archaic look and feel. Keeping the packs down to similar armour marks and the older members a tad more unique. I also hope to wolf up any forge world kits and ofcourse my knight when i finally own one. So you can expect more cases of 'that armours too nice for a space wolf lol' :)

Thanks for the compliments, i managed a little more on him pre-work yesterday and have the metals basecoated, but not enough to really warrant another wip pic. But there will definately be an update later today :).

The grey by the way is P3 iron hull grey, badab wash, the highlighted up with orion hull grey mixed with VGC Wolf Grey.

I think the pack looks a little off, did you think of using the wolf headed one by chance??

The GS cloak is really nice, good work on that!!

I used the same 'recipe' on my TDA Wolf Lord's axe. I love the wolf head motif that the Space Wolves have and use it when ever I can!!

End of Line

At this moment, that's the only type of pack I have rhapsody :(. I would have used the double headed one, but they are like rocking horse poop on bitz sites. On the flip side it makes him a little less run of the mill having a more 'normal' pack.

Right now I am fighting with his hair colour. Not sure what to go for. Feel black/grey would be a little too bland and samey. But not sure if good ol fashioned ginger would work. Or how to pull it off.

Here's the head in question

I know i am far from the mighty reaches of gold demon standard painters. But i have to say that overall i am really very happy with how he has turned out. After work tomorrow i will add a finally 'frosting' layer to the snow and get some better pics :)
