MagicMan
Brothers of the Thirteenth, whether firstborn sons, or a newer generation; lend me your guidance! Im putting together Captain Anton Narvaez of the Marines Errant. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Anton_Narvaez But i need some help with the pose/equipment. And who better to seek advice on how a Hero of the Imperium, and son of Guilliman should look, than the members of the Ultras board. Basically, I didn't want to flood my WIP thread with 10 pictures of the same guy in twenty poses, so I've come here, to the Halls of Guilliman to seek advice. Now he's obviously WIP, stuck together with tack, and the parts aren't finalised. For instance the chainsword in one pose would be replaced with a power sword. So i'm mostly hoping for pose advice here! Which one is coolest? How could they be cooler? :D One problem with Anton is that he carries a relic Plasma Rifle, which makes posing him more difficult, because i need the gun on him somewhere. I have been thinking of maybe using a suitably cool Plasma Pistol instead to represent it, what do you guys think? No Foes Remain
Have you tried using the plasma gun that comes with the sterguard box set (this one) and either this chainsword or this one and maybe have it so his chainsword is across his body blocking a blow while the plasma gun is low on his right side out of the way of close combat? Just some food for thought. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3612312 Share on other sites
MagicMan
That is probably the Plasma gun I'll use if I decide to give him the rifle over the pistol. :D As for the chainsword, he's supposed to have a power sword. So i'll probably have to give him one. The pose idea is cool though. Thanks! No Foes Remain
No worries, I'm happy to help despite your chosen chapter Edit: The ironic thing is the I am gluing the last member of a demi-squad for my Astral Claw force and was planning the 2nd squad when I saw the plasma gun, then I read your post and the pieces just fitted together. GrandMagnus
I think number 3 looks really good and really imposing, it fits in well with his legs creating a good sense of movement and balance. Son of Carnelian
I'm a fan of pose #1, he looks like a commander there. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3612518 Share on other sites
Blindhamster
Number three is really dynamic which is cool, I think a strap for the plasma gun and a slight change in angle may help finish it off... think I have all the bits you used so may have a play when I get home. Number one needs a different angle for the sword but the way hes holding the gun is very nice. Id go for an azrael style pose for the sword arm or switch for something like the grey knight sword through daemon head maybe. Will keep an eye on this, I rhink your choice in bits should be a winner :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3612554 Share on other sites
MagicMan
@ Anaziel, yeah its my favourite too i think!@ Sampson, it definitely has a ''Kill that, over there!'' feel to it, haha.@Blindhamster, thanks for the advice dude! I am willing to do a strap (was planning it for the first two poses), so if theres a good way to do it for number 3 i'd definitely give it a go. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3612610 Share on other sites
MagicMan
So had a chat with Blindhamster, and the third pose is too difficult to do with the Plasma rifle, so i'll be shelving it for a Vanguard veteran or something. He suggested something more along the lines of Azrael, or the Emperors Champion, and i've come up with this. Better? Dosjetka
Not at all keen on the blade and I preferred the pose with him swinging the blade two-handed, with the plasma rifle strapped to his rear plate (so pose #3 of the first post). Also, not really keen on the bare head. Have any others? (Keep in mind that this is your Anton Navarez, whereas I can always make my version of him to fit my own tastes ;)) EDIT: And shouldn't the title be, "Sons of Guilliman, lend me your ears!"? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3613141 Share on other sites
MagicMan
Haha, i was considering that for the title! I've got lots of bare heads, this is more of a placeholder. Ill probably change my mind on it about fifteen times. :/I'm a bit weird when it comes to the head, i think the right one really makes or breaks the model. And for the sword, my selections a bit limited. I have the two Vanguard swords, and the Tactical one. Im trying to snag some more on ebay... I might shell out for the Forgeworld power weapon set. You only get one Anton, after all.. MagicMan
After some more Blindhamster advice, i've come up with this. Not conventionally Captain, but very much Anton Narvaez. Whaddya think? GrandMagnus
That last one is nice too, I still prefered the 3rd. BTW, is it just me or are those legs extremely thin? MagicMan
Yeah the legs are kinda thin. They're from the Lord Executioner model, who is fairly badly proportioned. A problem with quite a few of the newer finecast space marines. His head imparticular is tiny.If you check them out in the Codex colour pages, where they show captains, compare them with the plastic guys next to them. They're alot smaller. I'm planning on building them up a bit with greenstuff before i start sticking everything together, will see how that works out. :P http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m3320005a_99800101112_SMCptLordExecutioner01_873x627.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3613439 Share on other sites
Hyaenidae
You asked for help, so you're gonna regret it. :P First, Anton Narvaez may be the de facto Chapter Master of the Marines Errant, but he's still one of the Dark Void Elite, the premiere boarding action team of the Errants. As i read that, I imagined Anton as a no-nonsense kind of dude, maybe a little fancy bits, but not a lot. Some things, were I in your shoes, that i would factor into his creation would be: The Dark Void Elite teleportation Assault team. Something to show that they are experts in ship-to-ship teleportation, like maybe a Grey Knight backpack with the rods cut down, or even a small heraldic shield with the old Marines Errant RT symbol on a black field. Best of the best need something to make them stand out. :) Void Hardened Armour. Add some extra armour plates on the limbs, similar to the HH Destroyers, or even maybe consider some sections of Mk III plate, or even strategically placed studs. When this dude pops up on the deck of your ship, you should not only know you're done for, but that there's nothing you can do about it. The Antinic Halo. Something cooler than just a fancy golden halo should be used here. Maybe paint thin lines of circuitry in strategically placed sections of his warplate, or something along those lines. it should look as unique as it is, know what I mean? Thundershock. Ah, the coolest piece of weaponry ever for a Chapter Master. One thing I thought of was that it was mentioned that it was a Pre-Imperial piece of Tech, so it should only resemble a plasma gun. I'd say, thin it down and shorten into something more like a plasma carbine, or even really make it look super-high-tech, like it got dragged out of an old armsroom dating back to the Age of Technology. Maybe debate one of the HH era plasma rifles? No matter what, the rifle should be his centerpiece, the first thing you see when you look at the model. Personally, I'd leave his sword in it's scabbard, and his rifle across his chest, at the 'low and ready'. Everything about this dude should scream 'Boarding Action King'. Shortened sword, pistol in a quick draw holster, any fancy pieces should be things that can be worn in claustrophobically tight confines without getting caught or used against him in a scrap. All personal opinions, of course, brother. I'm looking forward to seeing this dude finished. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3613760 Share on other sites

No Foes Remain
Brainfart. Use a Volkite Caliver for Thundershock. It would fit the bill and look awesome. Hyaenidae
Maybe. Cut it's length down, and swap the muzzle for a standard plasma muzzle, it might just work. Scratching something exotic and out of place of the 40k world would be cool too.... http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/169/1/5/commission_concept_art___plasma_rifle_by_torvenius-d53xgmj.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287673-sons-of-guilliman-lend-me-your-wisdom/#findComment-3614111 Share on other sites

Butters
go get some modeling bricks and model a broken wall. Then put one leg up on it and have him shooting straight out. Also I like the no helmet. Captains are usually big characters so their faces should be recognizable. That or make him doing a downward slice above his head.
