on the topic of Redmaw

Recommended Posts

I have seen more about him in the last couple days and he is amazing! My question that between him. MoTH battle leader, patient killers, and scouts how many units can either outflank or OBEL? And what are they? From what I read Bran leads a unit of Fenrisian Wolves. Am I wrong?

Thank you for the knowledge everyone.

Six.

Redmaw and his fenrisian wolf pack....
A grey hunter squad from the hunters....
Any ol squad led by the WGBL or WP....
And three squads of wolf scouts.

Add in some white scar allies if ye like, or get a few more scout squads over 2k points.

Have a quick question on this one because I've read different comments all over the place about this.

Can Redmaw join a squad other than fenrisian wolves and if so, does he confer saga of the hunter to them?

(e.g. can he join his own GH squad and then outflank with them instead of wolves)

The most compelling arguments for this I've found suggest that due to the context of the Redmaw rules (5ed) this sets him apart from the norm, where 1, all of the models in a unit needed outflank and 2, saga of the hunter was infantry only (which obviously excluded wolves).

I didn't play in the 5th but it seemed a reasonable argument.

There is 1 more where folks went into more detailed discussions about this but I cant find it right now.

I have a new question about Bran, more specifically The Axe Langnvast. The axe's description says it is a power weapon that grants +1 strength to Bran's base strength (giving him strength 4(5), in his profile). Does this mean it grants an extra +1 strength on top of the +1 strength power axes already add, effectively making it a frost axe with shred?

Also, which base size is best for The Redmaw?

I see it used as written so no additional rules even though it is an axe. Much like Logan Grimnar. His axe counts as a frost blade but not an axe.

I'd mount him on a terminator base to disturb as little models as possible if he goes beast mode.

scrap this question, DanPesci already answered it in the "Keen senses" thread

Just in case anyone missed this one..... smile.png

Had this discussion with someone else recently, but if you read the rules for bran, im pretty sure it doesnt say that he can only outflank with fenrisian wolves, it says that he has saga of the hunter that also grants him the ability to outflank with fenrisian wolves.

The reason for this is that this was written in 5th, when outflank wasn't passed to your squad (so wolf priests with SOTH couldnt outflank with anyone that didnt already have outflank - ie the only unit they could outflank with was wolf scouts) ..however this let bran outflank with either scouts OR fenrisian wolves.

Now in 6th, he gets saga of the hunter, ..the fact it states that it also allows him to outflank with wolves is redundant as in 6th outflank confers to the squad, so he can technically outflank with anyone he wants.

NOTE - i dont have IA11 to hand but im pretty sure thats how its written

With the base, id put bran on either a standard or terminator base, as he is just in power armour. For the redmaw itself, you need a seperate model. As its a monstorus creature id say it should be suitably large and go on say a carnifex size base....but its kind of up to interpretation as there is no official model.

theres more discussion on this here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/269700-bran-redmaw/ (thank sbaulder for linking this before!)

some inspiration for ya (although i think the last one, although great, the redmaw part may be a little TOO big haha):
