A Little Bit of Insanity...

Doghouse

Recommended Posts

This is something that I have wanted to do for a while now but have only just got around to getting the model.

Eventually I plan on getting some of the Imperial Knights and really want something characterful to support them in the form or allies. Originally I'd planned a force using the chaos codex mainly so I could use cultists as house hold troops but having seen the rules it turns out chaos can't be allied with them so kinda bought that idea to a screeching halt before it got started.

So...plan B.

Technically what I have planned is Truescale...sort of.

The concept behind these guys is that during the cursed founding there was a chapter created of giant marines whose name now escapes me, sons of something I think?

Any this idea has always played on my imagination over the years but I've never really got around to doing anything with it till now. What I have planned is pretty much a proxy force worrying less about models and more on characterful models and it gives me a bot of breathing room to get my creativity back for my truescale Iron Warriors.

The idea is that a chapter is created but due to mutation of the geneseed these guys turn out to be huge, around ten foot tall. Before the they can get to full strength the Inquisition steps in deciding that the chapter may pose a threat to the Imperium should it go rogue and pretty much wipes the fledgling companies out. Using over one hundred assassins the marines are pretty much annihilated over the course of ten years.

One marine manages to survive and takes refuge with a Knight House Hold who he pledges to serve.

For now the model, like the concept is pretty basic. Not sure what rules I'll use for him but Calgar sounds like a safe starting point so I will tinker with the base model a little before adding the weapons. For the time being I'm just getting the base model together before I start sculpting detail and cleaning up joins and such.

Here's a scale shot with some of my truescale marines just to give you some idea just how big primarch models really are. I have to say I was a bit shocked when I opened the box and saw how big it was compared to a regular marine.

If I do go the Calgar route then the left hand is getting a power sword and the right is getting a wrist bolter of some description. If I go with the regular chapter master rules  then it will most likely be getting a storm shield instead.

Sons of Antaeus are the GW Chapter, although I think they were perhaps more famous (infamous?) for their sheer toughness rather than being that much bigger than a regular marine? Or is this a separate DIY Chapter? In which case, cool!

Either way, mini looks good and you're true scale stuff is awesome as always.

Gah, ninja'd!

That's the ones!

This will be a diy chapter that I can wipe out rather than try and rewrite existing material. What I'd like to do is proxy marines using the admech robot guys (never post late at night when you are tired...) with a few modifications to make them look like they are using bolters and maybe the larger ones as a dreadnought proxy which might be cool. There was a precedent for marines of this size back when the 21st founding was originally written that hinted at them trying to remake the primarchs so I may play on that a bit.

Cheers guys.

A squad may be a tad expensive to make, probably some where in the region of the price of a reaver titan I should think! :D

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of continuing the story of the faux Primarch that escaped the admech laboratory in the 21st founding story, a kind of Frankenstein's monster kind of thing might be fun.

Second option is to get Lorgar and convert him into an apothecary that escaped with some of the chapter's gene-seed before they were wiped out.

Think he needs a cloak...

Yeah... Like I thought, wish we were made of money, the modellers.

Apothecary sounds cool, and seriously, a melta cannon attached to one of them, I think that would be absolutely amazing!

Cheers guys. smile.png

Yeah I think you could be right there, I'll turn the leg a little and see how it looks. I may straighten him out so he's not quite leaning on a slope as much as he is now.

Quick update, still needs some detailing and cleaning up but he's getting there. Ideally I want to get him painted tomorrow with any luck. Still need to add the cloak though.

And he's back...

Yep, it was Sons of Anteus. I'd have to dig out the Chapter Approved 2004 book out from somewhere. Here's the wikia I found on them:

Reinforced skeletons and larger than usual space marines.

Be interesting to play an iron hands siege mantlet squad if you want to make them 'legal'. They'll be beasts anyway.

So happy you bounded this up here. Very exited to see the undisputed heavyweight champion of truescale working on Erm... Large but normal marines! :D

Cheers guys :)

Still playing around with the model at the moment but it's slowly getting there. I've removed the base mainly because it made an already stupidly large model even more stupidly large and this will allow me to make the base the same as any troops or Knights I want to add.

I need to clean up the GS work, remove and add detailing and get the cloak done but he's coming along nicely. I'm thinking gold armour at the moment, ideally I want something that looks as if it's been made on a Knight world in the style of space marine armour and avoid any Imperial references.

For the time being I'm looking at a regular chapter master with a plasma pistol, relic armour and a relic sword for the base rules for him. Ideally this will be backed up with admech proxy troops with Mechanium Thallax Cohort models as the basis of marine proxies.

If I go the route of the rogue space marine mutant angle then what I was thinking was having the Thallax as the remains of his brothers, although they'd have little or no recollection of their former marine lives it'd be a cool way to preserve the gene seed of the chapter until he can find a way to rebuild the chapter.

If I go the faux Primarch route then these guys will be growing gene-seed created from his own genetic material so that he has plans for his own Astartes Empire.

:D

Still a lot of work to do on him yet, I'm working on the cloak right now and just waiting for the base of it to set before I can add it to the model and begin sculpting the contours.

It'll definitely be a looks better when painted model but not a conversion for the faint hearted.

I did use to do some stupid conversions back in the day. Think the most expensive one has to be the baneblade i hacked up. :D

Ok done a bit more and started on the cloak. I'm going about this a bit haphazardly to be honest but it's fun at the end of the say. Iv'e got the basic cloak in place and I'm working on the folds and contours at the moment. I also started to add an animal skin to the shoulder pad but I'm still playing around with that.

I'm leaning towards the faux primarch idea at the moment. I like the idea of this frankenstein kinda theme and backed up by a Knight House hold and ad mech proxy marine I think I can really go 40k gothic on this little force.

How fixed-in-place is the sword arm? I ask because I reacon it'd look pretty cool, mid-strike, at the original height, not that it doesn't look cool now though.

On the topic of "ruining" a FW Primarch, I know I couldn't bring myself to do it, thankfully the pose I want with Lorgar doesn't require any cutting, just a slight reposition sweat.gif

Cheers,

Jono
