netminder69
So this month in my Escalation league my entire pool is Space Marines. What weapons should I be looking to take? Grav and plasma seem to be good bets. Anything else I should consider? (I just wish I could take Asterion Moloc, but alas, nothing outside of Codex for now) will have a Storm Raven too, not sure which weapons would be best on that. dothac83
Plasma is good, same with Melta. I've kinda had hit/miss results with Flamers on Tactical/Assault/Devastator marines. GreyCrow
As many AP3 as you can. Against Marines you will want to secure wounds and unsaved wounds rather than roll for a lot of hits ;) Which means, Power swords or Lances (lances are fitting for the Minotaurs as well !), Lightning Claws, TH and Powerfists for melee, and as many as you can. For shooting, Plasma is a safe bet for foot based infantry, Grav guns on bikes. Take as many sternguard squads as possible, they have the Vengeance rounds which are nasty ! FlamingDeth
My preferred weapon against marines, and also everything else that isn't in the air, is piles of vindicators. Cheap and when you have a few of them undeniably effective. Kilofix
Everyone else is going to be packing Plasma, Gravs, etc. So I say go ALL SCOUTS. tdemayo
Plasma, plasma, and plasma. Plasma kills Marines, it kills Terminators, and it tears up light vehicles. Back it up with a little bit of melta or lascannons in case there is a landraider. Lysere
Honor Guard are awesome assuming the enemy isn't packing tons of plasma and grav, land raiders help with that. Otherwise whats been said, Sword and Lance for melee, Plasma and Grav for shooting. Missile Launchers also work great for heavy weapons since if they run any scout you can just switch to frag and stack up the wounds. Of course Vindicators work too, in fact Vindicators are the answer to most non flying units. netminder69
You're all making me wish I had the money for a Vindicator. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287990-taking-on-other-marines-weapon-selection/#findComment-3620627 Share on other sites
Lysere
You're all making me wish I had the money for three Vindicators. Fixed that for you. One Vindicator is never enough, unless we are talking about the previous Black Templar codex where you could put Power of the Machine Spirit on it and get into the enemies deployment zone on the second turn, while still firing at things. netminder69
Other than plasma, what about flamers? Would heavy flamers be worth it on the Sternguard? minigun762
I saw someone mention Heavy Flamer Sternguard in a Salamander army. S5 rerolled is pretty awesome. tdemayo
Flamers are deadlier than most people give them credit for, especially if you take them in multiples. I've had fun with 4x flamers on command squads, for instance. They can burn out whole units, even power armored units, if you can catch them in a clump with multiple flamers. That said, they are not super-efficient at killing Marines; they have a short range and are only situationally useful. Plasma a better all-round choice. May I also recommend the humble krak missile? Stacking up krak missiles from devie squads and the odd tactical heavy weapon eventually takes its toll on even Marines in ruins or with other cover saves. netminder69
I'm pretty much hamstrung by what I own. I got two tac squads, a command squad + captain (or chapter master), An unbulit Sternguard box, a Storm Raven, Assault Temries, and a Drop Pod. Oh, and 3 Rhinos/Razorbacks. I have a Devastator box, but it got raided for the Lascannon for my Tac Squad, so I couldn't build a full Dev Squad with it now. And it'll be raided more for the Plasma Cannons. Azash
Assault terminators are good just run a 3/2 split with hammers and LC's. The hammers will tank while the LC's kill off marines in volume. They also have enough survivability to ride in your raven. Sternguard with a mix of combi plasma/melta the former for volume the latter for anti tank. Las/plas razors are good marine killers.
