The regiment you'd love to build...

These guys (whom I had assumed were Necromundan for a long time):

Thing is... I'd need either recasts of or a metric butt-load of Necromunda Lasguns (there's one from the old metal gun sprue that looks exactly right) to get the lasgun correct. And that's not to mention sourcing parts for the rest of the mini in army-sufficient quantities...

Seeing as I'm chronically unable to make up my mind when it comes to this stuff I bought a truck load of those Kalashnikov Lasrifles back in the day for a regiment I was thinking about doing (was building some trenchcoat legs at the time). Then I changed my mind after a while and did a series of test runs in casting and one of the torsos I sculpted was this one, since I already had the rifles. I also started collecting knives and converting torsos for while, thinking about doing the Jumael 'Lucky Aces'. Even did some heads with the goggles from the 3rd edition codex.

I think I also posted a link to an album with one of conversions of plastic Cadians a while ago on here.

Truth be told I'm glad I finally made up my mind. And since I want to do some Chem-Dogs of Savlar I might even get to use some of that stuff.

I have much more stuff like this kicking around:

Something I'd like to do, but probably will never get around to is an AdMech Explorator detachment. You know looking like the artwork in the IA article about the cursed founding, a bunch of Adeptus Biologis and Tech Priests accompanied by servitors and Skitarii.

Krieg and Pretorians. Can't afford either, doesn't help that the country I live in have some odd rules when it comes to ordering stuff from abroad (seriously, if I order a Tactical Squad from GW, I end up paying for the squad, post and packaging, an expediting fee, and 25% of the price in taxes on top of that).

I have praetorians using victory lamb heads and plastic cadian bodies.  They work very nicely together.  Her penal squad heads also worked well for a psyker battle squad.

Dream regiment would be Valhallans with lots of infantry and artillery (I would do bad things to good people for some nice plastic grey-coat bodies) or tallarns with a good number of cavalry.

on the note of mixed regiments and the expense of collecting death korps of krieg armies. I've recently ordered some (cheap) DKOK models online! when they finally arrive i'm pretty sure i won't be able not to boast with them! this order will make my army a 50%cadian (+-130 models) 50% DKOK (+-110 models)in addition to my armoured battalion.

Mordians based from Victoria Lambs line of minis... Beautiful!

The best thing is, I can now do that slowly by using them as a second detachment in another imperial force.

I'd love to do a full combat engineer army too, preferably cadian engineers as a mechanised infantry force.

And finally, a Pardus Tank Company. Or Urdeshi Stormtrooper Force.

Can't beat the ghosts series...

I've got to say it strikes me as very off that GW has never wanted a piece of the action Victoria Lamb gets. Surely it wouldn't be hard for GW's sculptors to come up with a few conversion packs so you can turn Cadians into other regiments?

Not that I want them to muscle into her territory but there are tons of other regiments they could do. Seems like easy money to me.

I should add Vostroyans to my list, by the by.

Yeah I always wondered about that too. I mean of course they had Mordians, Praetorians, Tallarn and Valhallarners at one point and not too long ago Vostroyans as entirely independent ranges (They don't even sell all Vostroyan minis anymore). But that they never made much of an effort to add some conversion bits for the plastic Cadians surprised me too.

I mean by now there really isn't the need anymore since there are loads of aftermarket companies to fill those gaps, but I'm pretty sure they missed some good business opportunities by not at least offering a conversion sets for Ghaunt's Ghosts or the Bloodpact considering the immense popularity of the Abnett books.

Wouldn't even have had to be big stuff. Just a set of 10 alternate helmets or 10 alternate right arms with different lasrifles here and there to make the minis live up to the fluff in the codex and show the sheer variety of IG uniforms. I meant the IG is kind of unique in that it is the only faction in the game that can reflect the sheer size and variety of the Imperium.

But I'm kind of under the impression that the whole conversion packs thing wasn't too successful for them. They seem to fade out all the bits packs that aren't weapon choices in the books. Can't even find the Knights of the Blazing Sun for fantasy anymore. Kinda though that was such an iconic unit it would only be a matter of time before we got to see Knights of the White Wolf too, which all would have made for great conversion bits for IG too by the way.

Maybe IG isn't popular enough on the whole?

I adore the DKoK, I just can't possibly afford it... so I run my 2-20th Virginia as a heavy infantry with artillery support list using Cadians instead. I get the gameplay, but I do wish I could have the aesthetic of the Death Korps. I'm really digging the new storm troopers though, so I might start rebuilding my platoons using those models and use my old shock troopers as conscripts. Guess we'll see what the AM Codex has in store for us.

I'd also like to see Vitrian Dragoon kits... I think the Indian cultural vibe with a high tech spin would make for some sweet models.

A Brotherhood of Nod themed regiment would be absolutely sick

Kane Lives!

This. This is brilliant.

I always dreamed of building a cultist/traitor guard army, which I started building this week.  I also dreamed of building a Turok theme catachan army, which I plan on making a kill team when the new codex is out.  Serious, who would not love a catachan killing a space rex with a knife!

What kinds of IG armies would you like to make

The one I'm currently working on. And and one army that have a fanatical devotion to the Holy God Emperor. Their Flakarmour, helmets and their bodies is inscribed with litanies and praises to the Holy God Emperor. That would be cool to make if I had more time and money and models to match their fanatical devotion. And Valhallans.

I have praetorians using victory lamb heads and plastic cadian bodies.  They work very nicely together.  Her penal squad heads also worked well for a psyker battle squad.

they are resin not plastic but have you looked at mad robots kurgans? i have some on the go at the moment

myself, my dream regiment would be napoleonic brits with gasmasks, back pack fed hell guns, rough riders, jump packers and probably some tracked field artillery, so fluff wise although they have improved tehir tech to the highest imperial standard they still use the same old tactics everytime, will they ever learn?

You can get heads for that from Meridian Miniatures over his Steam and Aether blog atm. Or maybe it would be cheaper to buy a 40 man box of Perry Brits (and Rough Riders) and equip them with gas masks from Victoria Miniatures. There are several places where you can get jump packs and back packs, but the reason I'm posting this is to point out that you can easily do that. I also have a sadistic streak. teehee.gif

I tried to recreate this but the work involved just wasn't worth it. I would also love to do Vostroyan Firstborn and a DKoK army. And some Elysians. If I ever got into the FW warehouse I wouldn't know where to start.
