GrandMagnus
Hi brothers, yesterday I was browsing the interwebs looking for images of legion armies trying to get some inspiration to start something and I found these beatifully painted Night Lords, painted by Leoparden over at Warseer: Now look at that movement tray! I would love to get something like that to store my minis in when I put them in the cabinet. My first thought was the LotR movement trays (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1860245), but they can only hold 8 minis with as you might imagine isnt enough for a 10 - 20 man squad. So, do you know any tutorials for making movement trays like the one pictured or anywhere I can buy similar looking movement trays? Cheers, PD: NOT MY MINIS. ALL GLORY TO LEOPARDEN. Grotsmasha
I can think of two ways. The first is WHFB movement trays. Build the base to an appropriate size then measure out spacing with round bases and using some kind of putty build up to the basing around them. The second is plywood, measure out a thin (2mm or so) piece for the base , then a second piece with the 25mm holes drilled into it glued onto the base. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288117-40k-movement-trays/#findComment-3622298 Share on other sites
Max_Dammit
It looks like 2 pieces of wood stuck together, the top one with the holes the bottom one no holes. Not that hard to make if you got the tools Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288117-40k-movement-trays/#findComment-3622307 Share on other sites
Gurth
I’d go with the plywood idea: all you really need is an electric drill and a hole saw of the right diameter for the bases (25 mm for standard space marines) and some material that’s not too thick but which you can saw, like thin plywood or hardboard. Oh, and a regular saw to cut the material to the right size — though you could also have the store do this for you, if you work out the size you want beforehand. Then just saw the holes in one piece and glue it to a piece without holes. Might take a little practice, but plywood or hardboard are pretty cheap so you’re likely to have plenty of material to practice with. Forté
May want them a bit further apart. GrandMagnus
Okay, plywood it is then. Should not be a problem, my old man is a plumber/carpenter/electrician so he should have the tools. Thanks brothers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288117-40k-movement-trays/#findComment-3622348 Share on other sites
Cod
I have been making a few with mdf coasters/small panels and then cork matting/sheets stuck on top. I used a circular drill bit to put holes in the cork layer first. Used 2 sizes, one for combat squads and one for 10 man squads. The full squad figures are placed in classic football (soccer) formation, 3 4 3! When the ETL happens you will see pics of my movement trays. They are easy enough to make, good luck with it. greggles
There is a company that makes travel cases for mini's using this exact method, with a combination of magnets. http://www.tablewar.com/display-tower-full-size-case-mark-ii-black-red-blue/ Don't know if you were looking for a solution that was already ready made, or one to make yourself. Well this wasnt exactly what I was looking for. Nonetheless, thanks for posting. I was thinking more of movement trays like the onces for fantasy armies, but Im just going to make them myself. Durus
There are some companies that sell them. For example. It's just one of the first links that popped up when googleing it, but I've seen similar stuff done by other companies as well. If you have access to the tools to make them yourself, you might as well do that though. +edit+ Just remembered this eu company, seeing as you are in Spain. Their '25mm Conversion Trays for 25mm round based models' should do the trick. And if I'm reading correctly between the lines they should line up exactly like the fantasy trays so you could use round based demon minis in fantasy as well. Not sure if I'm reading it right, but the 'War of the Rings Movement Trays - Infantry' have a 5x2 option and the holes have larger gaps inbetween. So this might be another option closer to the pic you posted. They also have some interesting scenery. I already looked at the War of the Rings movement trays but they seem to be a 4x2 not 5x2. Durus
On the Sarissa page you can click on the 'Select Tray option' drop down menu, which has a '5x2 Infantry Tray' option, that should be it if I'm not mistaken. leoparden
Hi, there Figured I would probably be the best one to answer this question (which made me create an account here also - this is how you draw me in, is it?). Anyway, the movement trays I use are bought from an e-bay seller in spain. As far as I know they have a regular webshop also but it's far easier for me to use ebay for my purchases. The link to their shop is:http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/modularterrain/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= And observations in this thread are correct. There are different setups for these movement trays, the ones I use for my Night Lords have a tiny gap between the miniatures meaning that they do no line up well for fantasy. There are trays adapted for circular bases that are more closely spaced but the circular bases are still a couple of mm wider meaning that the total unit print is about 10 mm bigger for a 5-man wide unit. Hope that was helpfull Kind regards, Leoparden Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288117-40k-movement-trays/#findComment-3625087 Share on other sites
Hemal
I bought a resin movement tray a while back for a display squad, but that was only 5 arranged like an epic scaled squad ALso found these using google-fu http://www.base-x-of-war.com/html/sci-fi_tray_range_0.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288117-40k-movement-trays/#findComment-3625110 Share on other sites

Hobby has been on a slow burner right now though, RL is messing with my time table and laziness is hindering my progress when I do have time available.
