Bastion in Drop Pod army

Being as a bastion can't be glanced to death and the current meta is filled with S7 weapons that deny cover saves, I had thought about utilizing a bastion to protect the units that are deployed turn one in support of a drop pod army.

Hide a squad inside, hive a vehicle or two behind it, things of that sort.

Seem reasonable or am I just making a single obvious target to get focus fired.

Usually the type of support units you would use in a full/mostly drop pod army won't need a Bastion, am I right? Even if they did, you could easily hide them out of LoS for the first turn. Once the pods land, and they WILL land thanks to the drop pod rule, there's not much need to protect the units anymore.

That said, if you have a high value, high priority target in your army that you can't easily protect and you want to keep it alive throughout the game, then a Bastion is a great choice. Usually the Skyshield Landing Pad would be a bit better, but since this is a drop pod army, you won't have THAT many defensive units to protect, so a Bastion should serve just fine. It's not like the Bastion is very expensive in points either.

Also, if for whatever reason you are going to engage in a backfield game with your drop pod army, the Bastion is VERY useful. It gives you another LoS blocker and a large obstruction to pivot around, it forces your opponent to go around it, and you can put an objective behind it allowing Scouts or walking reserves to walk directly on to the objective safely while making it harder for your opponent to reach the objective. At the bare minimum, it can force fast offensive armies to waste a turn to reach you, either from having to go around it or through it, and that in itself is already one of the most point-effective purchases of "buying a turn" of time in the codex, barring Rhinos.

Either Comms or an Interceptor gun would be useful.

Beyond something obvious like a Tac squad, I was considering options like DevTurions with Lascannons or plasma command squad with Apothecary.

Both squads have good ranged firepower and are fairly durable against grenade spam or building collapses.

Perhaps drop a Devastator Squad near it?

Scouts with a Locator Beacon deploying on it in a suitable location?

The idea of a Bastion in a Drop Pod force is certainly one that has potential, we just need to work out how to do it!

Meh, just go without it. If you are mostly/all pods, half of the pods arrive turn 1 and you will survive the turn...and the next...and the next...you just need a unit of any kind other than fortifications on the table at the end of each game (not player) turn.

A cool bet is just a unit of devs in terrain such as ruins or maybe scouts with a beacon and MLs to be both fluffy or successful.
