chimeric gene-seed

So for my DIY chapter I want to have a cursed founding chapter whose gene-seed was an attempt to fix the imperial fist's missing su-san membrane and betcher's gland with portions of a stable non mutated chapter's gene-seed probably white scars. Now I know chimeric gene-seeds are frowned on but I was wondering if this was reasonable?

As far as I can tell, the Adeptus Mechanicus and Lords of Terra do whatever the hell they want with the geneseed they are tithed. It's basically their property. Space Marine chapters have a tradition of taking chapters that they are "related" to under their wing and teaching them their ways, but this is why there exist successors that don't have a lot to do with their parent chapters.

Now, if you want to be super fluffy, you might have to dig into Imperial history to find out the last time the Mechanicus and the High Lords were dumb enough to actually try this kind of thing... it never seems to work out, you see.

But it's been done, and your chapter wouldn't be the first.

I don't think any loss of gene-seed functionality can be considered "minor" if they weren't necessary the god emperor wouldn't have wasted his time creating them. but that little quibble aside perhaps fixing a minor mutation was a proof of concept of sorts for the major fixes they wanted to try in the cursed founding?

I'd say go for it, but don't make the nature of the intended fix too explicit. A little mystery works well for Cursed Founding guys.thumbsup.gif

Having them as proud sons of Dorn who can nevertheless spit acid and take long naps might give the Chapter a bit of an identity crisis, which could be fun to play with.

Also, if they're Cursed Founding, don't forget to give them an actual curse of one sort or another. The whole founding is meant to have been a bit of a disaster, after all.turned.gif

The healing coma thing I can see as necessary, but the spitting acid/poison is sort of unnecessary, because Space Marines are rarely taken prisoner...  I think it's a 'side effect' of the chimeric nature of Space Marine biology.  The Emperor used traits from the animal kingdom that he incorporated into the geneseed to make the primarchs and part was designed-part was accident (Basing this mostly off of Deliverance Lost)

The Aspirants are as changed by the Geneseed as the Geneseed is changed by them (over time).

Perhaps make the curse related to one of the glands? Maybe they can only truly sleep by activating the sus-an membrane, but each time they use it they must slumber for longer. Leading to many of the chapter's hero's spending centuries in slumber before being awoken for an important battle, like dreadnoughts.

I'm fine with this, just keep in mind you are burning bridges behind you. Space Marines take their genetic legacy quite seriously. The Chapters with unknown/dubious source of gene-seed are shunned and the stigma of Cursed Founding marks you as pariah.
