Custodes vs. Astartes action at the Siege of Terra

It's early in the morning and my brain might not be working yet, but I believe that the original collected visions says that the bulk of the Custodes were caught up fighting in Emperors webway portal trying to keep Hell out of the Throne room.

That I am sure doesn't mean they all were and I can imagine that many still manned the walls with the Legions though. Havn't had a chance to read the new Visions book yet either so that may also have changed.

Hope that helps (and that it is even remotely accurate :-) )

According to the old visions book (which means this has a high change of getting retconned), the Custodes' main actions during the siege were inside the Webway and helping the Blood Angels hold the walls when Sanguinius went with the Emperor to the Vengeful Spirit. There were also a good few Custodians alongside the Emperor and Dorn on the ship, but (again according to Visions), only Dorn managed to keep 'his' Custodians alive.

Another note that I remembered while at Work.

In Angel Exterminatus - when Perturabo and Kroeger (I think it was) battle it out in the simulator, the Custodes are deployable units. So I would assume that they were as well at the real siege.

Well the good news is that if it was going to be retconned, then it would have happened in the reprinting of Visions. The bad news is that I don't know if it has happened or not and I won't until next month.

But someone who already has Visions of Heresy can say yay or nay.

Surely, we're going to get treated to a ton of marine on

custodian/custodian on marine carnage at the Siege? Are the bulk of the

custodians battling against the traitor legions at the Siege? What are

they doing during this time frame?

Kicking butt and adding names to the inside of their armor.

I don't think the custodes will be fighting as they will be much too

scared of having their spines ripped out by the World Eaters who show up

Hah, it takes hands to rip anything out and that's the first thing we'll remove from you loonies. :P

CUSTODES REPRESENT!

Forgive me brother, I struggle to hear you over the Subha legionnaire brothers trying to breathe over there with their cored out chests.

P.S. Brother Saturnalia asks for his legs back.

There was emperors children on custodes action during the siege, though the custodes don't like talking about it

Top Five Things Custodes said to Emperor's Children:

5. "No, you cannot lick my spear."

4. "No, I will not tell you any of my 17 names."

3. "No, you cannot polish my armor."

2. "No, I will not give you a personal tour of the palace."

1. "No, I will certainly not show you mine!"

Only 17 names? Man, I've heard of weird initiation traditions, but forcing the newbloods to deal with the Slaaneshi Marines is just . . . cruel. And creepy.

More cruel than creepy.

No, no. Definitely more creepy.

I don't have the original printing of Visions, so I can't confirm what was originally canon, but I was able to pick up the latest printing this past weekend. Two things caught my eye in regard to Custodes vs. Astartes action in the Siege of Terra. They and the Sisters were in the battle of the Webway, but it mentions that, as the battle raged on, foully corrupted Space Marines and Titans began invading through the Webway. Again, I don't know if that was original, but it's in there now. Later, it says the Custodians had been redeployed to the upper levels of the palace. It goes on (on another page) to state that, within the palace, the Custodians stood ready to fight alongside the Blood Angels and their primarch.

All together, I think we'll see a lot of Custodes vs. Astartes action. It seems as though they separated out, timeline-wise, the actions in the Portal and the outside siege, allowing the Custodes a chance to fight alongside the Astartes.

That was also in the old Visions, more or less. In the original, the Custodes did more than stand ready, they were used by the Blood Angels defending the main gate (IIRC) for counter-attacks, to take momentum from the traitors. Imperial Fists were also present, I believe. Of course, once Sanguinius bit the dust, the Blood Angels did most of the counter-attacking...

If anyone has any doubt the Custodes have always had the base arsenal of the Legions, as well as exclusive equipment. The Dark Millenium illustrations and others took no sparing in their portrayal of Custodes Jetbikes, 'speeders, terminators and dreadnoughts.

My only comment looking at the Terminators above is that Imperial Fists should always have been damned gold.

If the Custodes are expanded upon and are shown to be more mentally mature than Astartes, but more importantly with a good enough quirk of weakness, I might just be temped to Main Detachment them.

Speaking of which, we've yet to see Custodian Terminators, right? Or Dreadnoughts. Or any other Custodian but the vanilla kind.

The old VoH book has a few pictures of Custodes Terminators.  Fancy armor, but storm bolter/powerfist instead of a Guardian Spear.  I always thought that was odd.

It would be quite nice if they got the equivalent amount of attention that the AdMech have gotten. I think you can use then existing Contemptors to cover for dreads, so it would seem like terminators and standard custodes would cover it.

I liked that about them as there's no arguing with a power fist. You either dodge it or you don't.

That appeals to us binary types. :)

Agree w/Honda wish they would get some attention from FW but I think that is a ways off.Story wise I wish they would get it together,They are supposed to be the Emperors new bully boyz after the Thunder Warriors who could take out the more damage than they recieved by astartes. But in recent stories the Custodes are not that swift.
