Relict
Hi all, After a few months of lurking about and using this forum as a source of information and inspiration, I have finally taken the plunge and sent Forge World my money. Now I have about 1000 points worth of World Eaters with which to begin my new hobby. Being a fan of the Black Library Horus Heresy books (in particular Betrayer), I have always been fascinated by the twin tragedies of Angron and the XII Legion. As a painter first and a gamer second, I would love to bring the characters of Betrayer to life in miniature form in addition to gathering a tabletop-ready force of 2000-2500 points. So without further ado, here are the first examples of my work, which will be the first of that tabletop-ready force. Having painted nothing but 1/350 scale warships in the past, I would love to get you guys' feedback. http://s27.postimg.org/wck82barn/photo_1.jpg Aralakh Tactical Squad, 77th Assault Company, XII Legion [pict-capture, Purge of Nuceria] http://s27.postimg.org/yfun9zakj/photo_2.jpg Torvan Assault Squad, 77th Assault Company, XII Legion [pict-capture, boarding action/Spirit of Espandor] Better pictures and custom fluff to come. infyrana
Looks like you were already beating me to my post in your other thread ! An excellent start, loving the clarity on those minis. White isn't an easy colour to paint so smoothly, but you've got it here :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288235-relicts-world-eaters/#findComment-3624835 Share on other sites

Relict
Thanks for the positive responses guys. When painting, I followed Forge World's recommendation for the most part and added a few of tweaks of my own. Since this photo, my tactical marines have received holstered bolt pistols to back up their bolters. Glad you guys enjoy them as much as I enjoyed modeling/painting them. Relict
Fear not, for I have a heavy support squad planned for this week, in addition to finishing my assault marines. infyrana
Please tell us it's a full Volkite heavy squad ? :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288235-relicts-world-eaters/#findComment-3625814 Share on other sites
Relict
It's autocannons... I like my troops with gritty weapons. :P So far I have a 10-man tactical squad (half of them painted), a 5-man assault detachment (WIP), a 5-man heavy support squad, a 5-man Cataphractii Terminator squad, and a Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought with twin Kheres assault cannons. The next FW order will include a Destroyer squad (Skane!), Apothecary detachment (Kargos), a centurion/standard bearer, as well as assorted infantry units to fully flesh out the troop selection. The last FW order would be more character oriented - Angron, Khârn, Rampager squad, Red Butchers. More pictures and tentative army list will be posted this weekend. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288235-relicts-world-eaters/#findComment-3625841 Share on other sites
infyrana
Ah Leaf-blowers! Great choice A very nice selection of models so far. I love the Destroyers in theme and looks and have a full set of 10 of them, very apt for my DG army. Apothecaries are a good choice to help keep your blocks of marines alive and kicking. As for the new pair models with standard bearer, can't go wrong there either, MkIII was my choice. With regards to the Destroyers, 5-man Assault troops and the Rampagers, do you have ideas for what units you want to make from these? The assault squad could easily be used as assaults, tacticals (place a dropped bolter on the base and magnetise the jump packs) or rampagers with a tweak or two. There's not a lot of people running Destroyers at the moment, they are an expensive but fluff-driven unit. Add in your terminators and rampagers and your army list would end up being low troops and high points. Oops, editing, forgot to mention the contemptor - can't go wrong there with that choice of weaponry ! Also, have a think about some tank killing stuff, you seem a little light on anti armour against AV14. Relict
All valid points. The Rampagers and Red Butchers are included for mostly painting- and fluff-related reasons. Like I said, I'm a fan of the Horus Heresy story. Modeler/painter first and gamer second. I definitely will need you guys' help with building the full army list as I progress past what I already have. EDIT: For the troops selection, I would like to eventually end up with two 15-man tactical squads and one 10/15-man assault squad. Still debating if I want to do a full dreadnought talon (3 units) with anti-armor weapons or use tanks instead. I definitely do want a Storm Eagle in the fast attack slot.
