Starting Out

Hi

I find this all very interesting and i am very tempted to start 30k but i'd like my 30k army to be at least partially useable in 40k games (modelwise) but the most important ,what startupcost am i looking at, i can't seem to find anything regarding that online... i once made a quick 2k list (without books) and it added up to 970 euros. What is the cost of your 2k lists modelwise ? just to give me an idea

cheers!

When I was still actively playing the game, I never made a single list and built the models for precisely that. I built an assortment of units and used those as the basis to make multiple army lists as my mood or tactics changed, and I know a lot of other players who did the same, so that might be a very difficult question to answer.

thanks for the quick reply,

I build my 40k and fantasy armies the same way, i buy models and always have some way to switch units in and out of my lists (like having 3500 pts worth of models and only playing 1850 pts games)  but the general cost for 1850 40k is about 400-600 euros. You do always need to buy at least enough models to play your starting army being fully aware that you'll add more later on. So is a average 30k 2000pts list like rather 800 euros, or 1000 or 1250? what did you spend ?

In 30k you have a tons of options, which owns bones. This said, to make a realistically competitive army you'll need to make some hard choices- more guns or more boys? More fluffy or more generic? Legion lists are a mix of Craftworld Marines and Imperial Guard. Your troops are expensive, but pretty cost effective when you make them large (MSU is a bad choice for most 30k armies). Likewise you have very cost effective heavy support and elites.

I'd argue that in lower point games (1500-1850) rites of war are pretty points prohibitive. All this said, your heavy support and 4 (yes 4) elite slots are full of really good firepower. You'll need to pick a theme and find a way to make it work without overspending on toys.

It's a great army to play. Really balanced and very fitting the setting. I haven't had this much fun since chaos 3.5. You can always use regular 40k marines and tanks to save money on the proprietary forgeworld stuff like some of the vehicles and books.

Best way to fund it is to primarrily raise the cash by selling your 40k/other models. Though I have asked a mate to pick up a lascannon devestator squad for my salamanders at Salute, it's a combination finishing dissertation/birthday thing.. :P
Remember that the tanks chassis we see in 40k would also have been present, and in the case of land speeders there is no heresy version so just conver the pilots to be in the older armour and online retailers/second hand can be your firend

There are always options to build your collection without selling off your current army.

Did you miss these Legion_Javelin_Attack_Squadron on FW's site? HH Landspeeders.

Those are Javelins speeders, though. Entirely different from standard landspeeders.
