Horus Heresy release dates?

That information was pretty much confirmed last weekender.

The plan (last I've heard) was 9 books (3 trilogies) with 2 maybe 3 books a year. They are looking into xenos additions and books covering the smaller and lesser known campaigns during the heresy. IG is rumored to be in book 4.

You need to buy Betrayal as well. That said, the first book in each trilogy will feature a new legion list to represent the legions changing over the course of the Heresy. So if you're only interested in, say Blood Angels, then you'd only need books 4 and 5.

You need to buy Betrayal as well to get most of the generic Legion squads, tanks, etc.

I thought I read somewhere that xenos would play no role in the heresy, being on the run due to the pasting they took during the crusade.

They'll do more than 9. It took a trilogy to explain Istvaan. It'll take at least a trilogy for the Siege. Everything in between is way more material than 3 books can handle.

I wouldn't be shocked in 20 years (at this rate, lol) when this is over there's 15-25 in total.

Have a look at this series projection:

The first trilogy covers 3 of those boxes - there's a long way to go yet

I would expect 6 maybe 7 trilogies.

I'm thinking it will look something like this:

Trilogy 1: Isstavan, Phall, Paramar

Trilogy 2: Prospero, Signus, Calth

Trilogy 3: Martian Schism, Thrames Crusade, Battle of Tallarn

Trilogy 4: Shadow Crusade, Alaxxes, ???

Trilogy 5: ???, Molech, Caliban

Trilogy 6: Invasion of the Sol System+initial landing, Battle of Terra, Siege of The Imperial Palace

The "???" I don't know about, but I believe The Space Wolves and the Thousand Sons fight once more so that could be one of them.

Very close to my thinking.

I wonder, when they finally finish the HH, will FW go the prequel or sequel route? GC vs. the Scouring.

I'm pretty sure that it was said the entire heresy will be covered in the first 9 books.  After they finish the siege of Terra and the Scouring, they were going to go back and address some of the lesser campaigns and actions.

The first weekender they said no Xenos, the weekender that announced book 2 they said they were looking into it.

I don't think it's rushing it if they're not being strictly chronological. The Black Library are the main story tellers of the Heresy, and we all know how it ends anyway. The way I see it as a historical gamer, FW are the Osprey books to BL's Bernard Cornwell novels. Set against the fact that lots of players/collectors will want to model the greatest battles or their favourite legions, going non-chronological makes a lot of sense for Forge World.

That's pretty much how it was rumored. The first nine are the major actions of the Heresy, which will get all the core army lists and models out to play.  All the following will be filling in the blanks based on current fluff and new writings of BL.

I would expect 6 maybe 7 trilogies.

Not to mention the Space Wolves, Ultramarines, and White Scars leading the Scouring and the Imperial Fists at the Iron Cage.
