Character on bike within Thunderwolves

A Character on thunderwolf can only join a thunderwolves or fenrisian wolves unit.

But there isn't any rule preventing a character without mount or even in just a bike joining them.

So it would be perfectly legal joining a runepriest on bike in a thunderwolves unit, isn't it?

Personally I would keep my Rune Priests with units that would benefit more from their abilities like Grey Hunters and Long Fangs.  If anything I would put a Wolf Priest on the bike and join him into a 5 strong unit so the unit will get preferred enemy, and fearless so even if they soak all the fire and survive they won't be running.

Thanks... The funny thing with RP biker is divination on thunderwolves, it's quite expensive if you compare your 135 points RP with UberTigurios (a bargain of 165 points), and surely overkill, but against some very hard targets are really worthy.

I have been using it in a unit of swiftclaws bikers but they are nearly useless, sadly but useless.

I've always toyed with the idea of rune or wolf priest on bike in my all mounted army.... why is it they can't get TWC but BL & Lords can?  I hope they fix this in the new codex.

I considered using all my old cyberlegs for TWC on one wolf mount to consider that a bike now; Six Million Dollar Wolf (nananananananana).... not sure people would accept that as a valid model conversions.

But the THEMATICS!! But, but, the FLUFF!!??

OHHHH, it's all WRONG!!

I love your idea The Rose Princes!! I actually took the finecast wolf and turned it into my Night Lords Lord on bike and mounted it onto a bike base. It looks quite nice really. Maybe if you go through with the idea try that out so you can say, if nothing else, 'it's mounted on a bike base, so it's a bike'!! :D

End of Line

It's all about the fluff.  When you read the description of the Thunderwolf Cavalry in the codex, it is clearly a subset of the Wolf Guard that go out and take on the quest of subduing a Thunderwolf.  Wolf Lords and Wolf Guard Battle Leaders will have been promoted from the ranks of the Wolf Guard, so it makes sense that some of them will have been Thunderwolf-riding Wolf Guard, and will continue to operate in that way in their new leadership role in the Great Company.

Rune Priests and Wolf Priests, however, do not come from the ranks of the Wolf Guard (with the notable exception of Ulrik the Slayer), so they would have never had the opportunity or the priveledge of taking on the quest to control/tame a Thunderwolf, and establish that relationship with one of those beasts.

Thus, in this way, the codex is consistent.  Where it breaks down, is when the Kelly decided to allow access to a Thunderwolf for Iron Priests.  The justification given (that the Iron Priests are responsible for the bionics/augmentics to the pack of Thunderwolfs under Great Company care) is actually quite weak and not consistent.  Iron Priests don't come from the Wolf Guard either, so it doesn't really make sense that they do gain an opportunity for mastery over one, just because they are responsible for a portion of the care of the beasts.

I don't think this argument will ever end until our new codex comes out or they make an ammendment that clearly states who can and cannot join TWC/Fenrisian units or who can take them as mounts. Fluff wise I don't agree with a bike joining a pack of TWC, I get nervous just riding my horse around cars. A live animal can get out of the way of things quicker, where as a car is more stationary and to be honest is a danger to a mounted unit in case something does happen. I consider cars immovable walls in case my horse spooks I can only imagine what it would be like with TWC accompanied by a bike unit. O.o
