simison
Hi everyone, first time poster, learning Blood Angels player, here. Need some help with a couple of questions. After reading through the Rafen-Arkio Blood Angel novels, and through some internet surfing, I've heard that we used to a field a Sanguinary High Priest unit. My questions are, is this true? Was he an HQ unit? What were his stats? And, for the fun of it, how would you convert him into 6th edition? Plague Angel
0-1 HQ choice, yes. Stats don't translate over to today's edition very well, but they had Corbulo's statline with one less Ballistic Skill. Thinking about converting the rules for one for funsies, I know how I'd start: since Sanguinary High Priests are to regular SanPriests as Reclusiarchs are to Chaplains, I'd compare the HQ Reclusiarch to the Elite Chaplain, and the Elite Chaplain to the Elite SP, and base a High Priest off of the Reclusiarch statline. Lord Commander Scrymgeour
I'd just use Corbulo's rules personally and make an awesome conversion! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288387-a-high-priest/#findComment-3628247 Share on other sites
Plague Angel
Corbulo's great, but he's still an Elite choice! I'm not sure he cuts it as an HQ, but I'd love to hear what others think. Blindhamster
If corbs were about 10 points cheaper, I'd probably take him as my HQ fairly often tbh. He's good! I once killed a contemptor dread with him ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288387-a-high-priest/#findComment-3628257 Share on other sites
simison
Neat. I first got into 40k about a decade ago when the new mall had a Games Workshop open up. Played my first couple games of there, but being 15, didn't have the money to start an army. Then a friend found a place to play and buy things near here and I've been at it for the last two years. I'm slowly building up my own army, and have decided to try my hand at a successor chapter. Lately, I'm adding more fluff to the Company commanders, and having them officially be headed up by different officers other than Captains. (Reclusiarchs, Libbys, etc). So, I was intrigued by the High Priest idea and was wondering how to incorporate them. Maybe make up a model for my fluffy games, since I am a big fan of the Sanguinary Priests. Plague Angel
Corbulo's already a steal! A 95 point HQ with what he brings is a bit much, I think? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288387-a-high-priest/#findComment-3628277 Share on other sites
Blindhamster
he'd need to be cheaper than the librarian I was thinking, and chances are... our librarians will get the C:SM/C:DA treatment. so no... 95 for him would be reasonable honestly. possibly with a restriction or two added to the reroll i guess. Plague Angel
"You can include 1-3 Sanguinary Priests (one of which can be Corbulo) as a single Elites choice." "Brother Corbulo.........105 points. You can include Brother Corbulo as one of your Sanguinary Priests." Sanguinary Priests are each independent characters, not a unit together. thebymster
Tangent I know, please forgive: I started using corbulo as defensive player; with lascann tac squad, sometimes =][= with conversion beamer- sitting on objectives, soaking up fire power. without a jump pack how do you make him an attacking player? Who do you run him with?Is he any good at it? Blind, if he took out contemptor, he MUST be. Nuff spek! Was that rends off his big chain sword? FnP off the overwatch? Plague Angel
My default placement for Corbulo these days is with Assault Termies. The 2+ armor meshes pretty well with his 2+ FNP. Precision shots are an issue on paper, but none of my regular opponents have seemed to think of it so far, since the survivability of stormshield Termies makes them look at the whole unit with frustration instead of just blaming the IC, and Look Out Sir onto a stormshield feels nice. Assault Terminators are slow anyways, as slow as Corbulo is, but have the 2+/3++ to make it to the target eventually. In my experience, Corbulo and the unit compliment each other's strengths very well. I'm starting to consider a Land Raider to make it even more offensive, but that's a big investment, both points and cash. They deathstar their way through lots of enemies if used right. I have yet to try them with a stormraven because like you I lack the model and funds needed to acquire said model.
