DA assault sgt gear

Even a single claw has the Shred ability (that's the re-roll to wound rule), but the single claw does not give +1 Attack, as it is also a Specialty Weapon.

Hmm hadn't thought of that, if he's carrying a combi weapon anyway then the specialist weapon restriction doesn't matter.

Do y'all think its worth losing the pistol shots to trade up for a pair of lightning claws on the assault vet sgt? I was thinking about it for the +1 attack for 2 specialist weapons. I have an 8 man assault squad, so one pistol less I dont think is too big a deal.

RAW Assault sergeants can't take two lightning claws.  The only PA models that can take a pair are Company Vets and Command Squads, sadly.

Glad to see this topic. It has helped answer some of my questions. But, the main thing I have been wondering, why aren't they allowed melta guns? Normally I play DW or  RW, rarely greenwing. Today I went into our game store and bought a box of assault marines, then came home and ordered some more robies from GW. I really want to make an all DA army work for me. I had bought a razorback a few months back to put into my GK but  dug it out today to put into my DA. So building up my DA again and hope to do good with them. Back on topic, no upgrades but melta bombs, that does make a lot of sense.  Thanks all.

Or be a raptor. Apparently ya gotta go chaos to get the shiney stuff. Just as well, if you can win with DA then you've REALLY accomplished something. Been playing them for over 20 years now and I'm not going to stop. I think they will be a great distraction squad tho. As for the sgt., I don't have the SM dex, can he take a storm shield in it?

Thats sad about the dual claws on the sgt. I read the melee weapon rule as a 1 for 1 trade, but could be for each wrapon on the sgt. I guess i'll figure out something for my dual claw sgt and dual powerfist company master. I know, i know, thats a lot of points for a CM but he looks hella cool :)

I don't play the greenwing very often, but unless Ii am running a dev banner, I beef my sgts up a little. I know it's probably not really worth the points, but a power sword/axe, bolt pistol and vet upgrade makes my fluff habit happy

Hey all, with 2 flamers in the assault squad, would you give the sgt a combi flamer for a third? I was thinking a combi melta for anti vehicle, but I suppose melta bombs would be more effective. Any thoughts?

I've reservations about the combi-melta, since it can only be shot once - big bummer if it misses.  Melta bombs cost half as much, and continue to present a threat after the first attempted use (albeit with a shorter range).

Thought on the pistol thing from earlier - if you've got krak grenades still, is missing your bolt pistol that big a deal?

I think it's the combi-flamer best choice. Better than 2 flamer templales is 3 flamer templates... msn-wink.gif

And, if the Sergeant were to fire a combi-melta at a vehicle, the rest of the squad's firing will probably be wasted, it being Str 4.  Better to have them all fire at something they can collectively do a lot of damage to rather than waste everything on one shot (unless that is the only shot they have, and the squad will also likely be assaulting said vehicle with krak grenades and maybe a meltabomb).
