Captain Idaho
Now that time has gone by and people have plenty of games under their belts, what's the opinions on these fortifications? Specifically I want them for the quad lascannons. BS2 seems poor but twin linked 4 shots should help against fliers that come on from reserve. AV14 just adds to my armour saturation. My biggest issues are as follows: 1) They shoot at the nearest target, so flying monstrous creatures won't be as intimidated because they don't come on from reserve the same way. Swooping cheese. 2) BS2 is really poor. So please give me some anecdotes on their performance and convince me to take these bad boys without fail. I don't rate too expensive to exclude from my army so I can't see the problem taking them anyway. Alternatively what are people's tips for their use? Thinking of using them as cover and across the table from each other to create a killing ground between them. minigun762
BS2 TL'd is slightly better than BS3 so each battery will average a single hit. Not bad when it allows no armor save and wounds on 2's normally. I think they are most useful as "place it and forget" options. No need to have a squad camp along side like a quad gun and they are more durable than the AA tanks. You can't control them so don't worry about it. Focus on the game plan with the rest of your army and the batteries will keep flyers honest. The lack of control turns it from dedicated AA to AA distraction. Captain Idaho
Good point. The weakness is potentially a strength since target priority is affected. Have you used one in any big games? What's your best scalp? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288425-vengeance-battery/#findComment-3629092 Share on other sites
Nusquam
If you want anti air the redoubt is really the best way to go. It prioritizes air targets and can have the BS3 upgrade. VWB are really better served to with the battle cannons for most units and the punisher if you face hordes a lot. The quad icarus does have interceptor so FMC that fly on can be shot easy enough if you take the VWB but if the FMC starts on the board you're in trouble. It's what, a 50 point difference, more if you give it BS3. It does have the rule to prioritize the nearest flyer, where as the Batteries just prioritize the nearest unit. Either way, I would put the two batteries together so they focus fire on the same target.
