collecting a Sisters of battle army, some questions.

I am wondering how expensive a SoB army might be to collect.( Yes I know their was a name change lol.)  My friend had a small collection he want's to part with , mostly infantry models, and I don't know what a reasonable offer might be. I looked at the GW Online store and that was frightening!

And advice? I don't want to get in over my head.

Brand new, you're looking at "more expensive than Forge World".

Second hand, half the brand new price is usually fair.

I counted 108 mini's. It's doesn't have any Special weapons. their are 10 heavy bolters but bolters are the vast majority.

I don't know if the cost of adding the extras will be worth the time and money... I am able to strip the paint and repaint them easily enough. I'm more worried about the added expense. I have never played this army before.

Second hand lots on ebay commonly reach (or even surpass for some strange reason) the price of new models direct from GW. Any sister models you can get for cheaper is generally a good deal!

Just be sure you want to play Sisters first, and then offer what YOU are prepared to pay for them.

If you have spare special weapons from guard and marines and you have a dermal tool you can take one of the sisters at a time and cut the old bolter away and replace it with a special weapon. Some green stuff and glue works then! Since they are metal you can't really change the poses, but you can change weapons! Once you get them you can plan out your army and decide which weapons you want. For your heavy weapons, if you don't end up with any heavy flamers you may end up going to ebay or GW. For vehicles, any rhino will work and you can buy some rhinos and then go to FW and get the parts you need for exorcists. Which you will need. They are the longest ranged weapon you have and really fair to good Marine and vehicle killer. If the price is right like the guys above said, buy them. think about how you want your army to look and what you want them to do. And if you decide not to run sisters, there is aways ebay! You could even make some money on them!

I agree with what has already been posted, Sisters aren't cheap but if you can buy this collection for a good price it would be a great start. You would definitely need plenty of special weapons at the least though, and likely Rhinos too so factor that in.

Patience is the key to being a Sisters player uber, as we have some very long waits...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm not sure if I want them or not. My friend wants to sell them and I'd like to buy them to help him out. But I don't know for sure. He's asking roughly $5.00 (usd) each for them except the Heavy bolters which are new in the blister.. he wants 11.00 for those. I know they run about 14.00 each for those.  am going to think about this for a while before I decide. It is a lot of mini's And I think metal mini's keep their value, mostly because they can be striped and repainted.

I don't want to rush in, I get buyers remorse.

At $5(USD) apiece that is a bit much if they are painted/cleaned. A fair used value would be in the $2 to $4 range considering you will have to expend additional time, effort, and supplies stripping them. The $5 price for new/out of box is fair retail price, that is roughly the cost of buying brand new through a local discounter. In my mind the question of note is when did he buy his army?

Two years ago the heavy weapons were about ~$5 new.

Two years ago the regular sisters were about ~$3 new.

If he has had the army that long and is looking to sell it for the quoted price just go in realizing you are overpaying by a large margin. Calculate the difference and consider the balance a 'gift' so to speak. If he purchased the army in the last year or so then the price is just to recoup the cost of his own investment.

For sure think about such a sizable collection purchase and what the goal of the collection will be. For a standard game of 1500-1850 you will likely field at most 60 bolter models. I regularly field only 30 or so at 1500, the remainder of my points being vehicles, special weapons, and fortifications. A squad or two, 15 to 20 models, would make a nice ally force if you wanted to get the feel of them. You will either love their playstyle or bemoan it. If you consider them as metal and a collectable keep in mind  that right now the MSRP is grossly overpriced and at the height of the bubble. If they release plastics or resin versions in the next year the bottom will drop out and it will take a slew of years for them to climb back up to current MSRP with inflation.

Sounds a little high for mate's rates, yeah. Give it some good thought before you leap though I'll add that unless GW has a radical shift in approach I think we're some way off new Sisters.

Maybe you can buy only some of the models? Get some of the HBs and a good number of bolters and that's a very good core to build on.

Again thanks everyone for the advice. I'm not going to buy them. For me it's either all or none. Which seems better to me

I would need/want less in the long run. Time was never an issue only the cost in money. I never play with mini's anyone else painted I paint and would repaint them. Thanks again for the help.

A dirty trick people pull, along with the classic "pro painted". I'm not sure who the pro was that did the painting for the majority of these, but I can only assume the "pro" refers to some talent other than painting...

Nah, that's just abuse. Now, if you could get someone to pay you to smash your head into a piano, you could claim you're a professional piano player.

Most people who do that call themselves "Artists" though.

I thought "pro painted" was a latin phrase meaning, "needs to be stripped."

Do you have a link to the discount place?  As far as I know models are either found used (as in ebay) or bought new direct from GW only.

And I think the prices you remember are from longer ago than 2 years.  When the white dwarf codex came out I picked up 4 more heavy bolters at $14 each as a christmas present to myself.

The way i see it a new sisters player has a couple of options when considering collecting a force. Either piecemeal with small purchases over time or getting someone elses whole collection, either online or (if your lucky enough) in person. Several several years ago i aquired to skeleton of my sisters force from a chap i knew. Id check everywhere you can first and decide if you want to save for a large force cuz peicemeal does not usually come with much retail price disount (if any). Good luck and hope you get a new sisters player into the hobby!

Does anyone else feel like trying to promote sisters is a bit like trying to sell vinyl records. "These are great trust my they are the original and back in my dat these were the S#@&!!

Thanks for all the help. Younz all seem very passionate about playing sisters I wish I was as well. I really am thankful for the advice.

I won't be buying the sisters But I will try to help my friend sell his, Hes hurting and needs the money. I wishthings were going better for him. I hate it for him. Just a run of bad luck I guess.

 Again, Thanks!

He's probably better off splitting it up into smaller sales, not many would be interested in so many Sisters plus he might get a bit more money that way.

We'll be waiting for Forge World uber when the plastics roll in ;)
