Flamestorm Baal Predators

I use them without the bolters. They are still a bit expensive for just one weapon but I like seeing them on the table. Outflanking preds can be great against enemies fire support units. I just incinerated a long fang squad the other day.  Assault cannon/heavy bolter predator is almost always better though.

I would either go AC/Bolters or just naked flamestorm (maybe with a storm bolter if you really need to use up 10 extra points). The flamestorm makes it huge target whenever it's on the table and within 20" of anything, so you want itoutflanking and/or as cheap as possible so you don't feel bad when it gets blown up.

Just brought one in a casual game this weekend. Outflanked and roasted a unit of dire avengers. Not an even point exchange, but when you consider that your opponent needs to stay >12" from the edges of the board to avoid the outflanking firestorm, it can be a game changer.

Yeah, outflanking seems to be the best bet with it.

With my Baal I have my turret interchangeable from Flamestorm to Assault cannon, but seems my assault cannon bit took a vacation. All I have left is the flame... So... if I can't find my AC, I need to figure out how to put the flame to great use so I don't have unused model syndrome. lol

I have never tried running a flame baal, but if I did I would run it bare and use it to outflank. But at 1,000 points I can generally only field one baal and that is a lot of points to use to outflank and generally means I would have to give up the center because I would not have enough fire power on the board and my opponent would likely move troops towards the center so the outflank is not as much of a danger.  At 2,000 points I like to run three baals with AC and heavy bolters because everyone I have played has seen how devastating they can be and how I position them gives me control of where they will move their troops.  But if your goal is to move everyone to the center to create a cross fire or to position your enemy for a charge then an outflanking flame baal would be an ideal unit to force them in.  Of course at 2,000 points I will occasionally throw three vindis with siege shields to see the look of fear in my opponents's eyes.

When I'm fielding FlamerBaal I run it cheap. Turret weapon and Dozer blade are basis, sometimes I add Hunter Killer Missle (helpful when You get on the opposite side than You would like sweat.gif ). Flamestorm negates cover so dozer quite probably will be useful msn-wink.gif .

Option with Flamer and Bolters looks interesting, might try it cool.png

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone equip a storm bolter on their BP?  I'm modeling my Baal Predator right now and am unsure whether or not I wish to spend the extra 10 points for it.  I kind of like keeping it at 145 points, but an extra two shots might be worth it considering that the SB has the same range as the AC.

I run my one Baal with a storm bolter (and hunter killer missile), and I do have some success with that load out, but my Baal is an original Mark I that did not have the sponsons when I got it, so I may not be the best one for advice. If it's an easy enough conversion for your modelling skills, I would try to model the hatch you're thinking of mounting the SB so that you can switch it on and off between matches.
