Nova_chron
So I have a question for you guys I want to use an honor guard unit in my games over 1500 points, what would you suggest for load outs both jump pack or on foot?
Dolchiate Remembrancer
Personally I have used them as a tank busting unit in a razorback with a librarian to some good success.
Nova_chron
Yeah I was looking at them as a tank/mc killing unit. One more question the blood champion in the FAQ it is not specific as to if he must have a sword, would it be legal then to give him a maul or axe? ( I love me some blunt force trauma) :) This is the line I was referring to In the bestiary and army list, replace all references to “power sword” with “power weapon”. Dolchiate Remembrancer
If it's a power weapon then its a WYSIWYG question. not 100% sure but I think it has to be a sword or axe...might want to check the 40K rulebook for clarification though. On the tank busting: They are a lot of fun, can come with there own priest and if you add a librarian can re roll plasma gun shots(bye bye get's hot!) Nova_chron
I am really hopeful that I can use a maul, beyond looking better I just love knocking people down to I 1.
Quixus
If it's a power weapon then its a WYSIWYG question. not 100% sure but I think it has to be a sword or axe...might want to check the 40K rulebook for clarification though. No, the Codex says power weapon and thus can be any power weapon including mace and spear as long as it is modeled accordingly. The FAQ only restricts Sanguinary Guard to axes and swords, but that may be because the kit does not come with maces or spears.
Lysere
Maces make great anti-tank weapons. My old BT chaplain used to run around with a S7 Mace hunting IG tanks solo. True he was essentially EW back then, had 6 Attacks, and could take down Phoenix Lords in Single Combat, but I digress.
Dolchiate Remembrancer
Thanks for the clarification Quixus!
Plague Angel
I use mine as Terminator/Centurion hunters. All the Honour Guard have plasma guns/storm shields, and they ride around in a las/plas Razorback. If I took a foot HQ, he can fit in there too, but they're generally fine on their own. Nova_chron
I feel like the honor guard serve the purpose of special weapons squad, more than as an HQ body guard... If I need to give my HQs some friends it is usually ASM. Although I am playing with the idea of vangaurd vets
Kanis
I'm just finishing my own Honour Guard squad now and it's got 4 Brothers with plasma-guns so I will obviously second that idea, haha! Coming with a priest and that firepower is too awesome I think. (And help with my Necron problem me hopes >_>)
JamesI
I've had luck with jump packs and 4 plasma guns. 2+ armor hunters
Nova_chron
So everything I have been reading is saying, use them as a special weapons squad
Kanis
Aye, pretty much. They're good for nearly any role that way, horde or TEQ.
Nova_chron
Slightly off topic here, but with the honor guard bringing a FnP and FC bubble I was wondering how heavily do your saturate your lists with sanguinary priests?
Dolchiate Remembrancer
Depends on the opposition really and how much AP2/3 madness they have.
JamesI
Slightly off topic here, but with the honor guard bringing a FnP and FC bubble I was wondering how heavily do your saturate your lists with sanguinary priests? I generally run 1 priest (or Honor Guard squad). Most of the time I have a jump priest or Corbulo depending on the rest of my list.
