Icarium
Hey guys so this is my first post and to be honest I'm a bit of a cherry when it comes to gaming/painting although I have always been interested and read the books. Since the HH has come in I have decided to give an army and gaming a crack but am not really sure where to go with it at this stage as I dont know the rules and strengths/weaknesses of each army. I have taken a liking to Death Guard and have started collecting them and painting them and was wondering if you guys and gals could give me some tips/pointers/criticisms. Here's some pictures of what I have so far and look forward to hearing some ideas and stuff from you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288806-death-guard-army/ Share on other sites
Mortarion24
Your models look really nice! Good colour scheme (and good choice of army ;) ) What I found when painting is that a good base really makes the model look finished. Textured bases with a few bits of detail, finished off with the edge of the base painted in a colour to tie it in with the army (so some sort of green for your DG). I might be starting a DG army soon based around a book-themed force consisting of lots of troops with masters of signum and apothecaries, backed up by a few heavy units like vindicators, dreadnoughts and mortarion. A footslogging, resillient force. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288806-death-guard-army/#findComment-3637576 Share on other sites
Icarium
Thanks Mortarion24 I do agree they look unfinished at the moment so will get onto that and update once done. Yeah that is roughly where i was heading with my army an Infantry heavy force as it seems to tie in with their background. Really hanging out for the Mortarion model from Forgeworld!! Pyromancer
Great start! I really like the use of blue as a spot colour, it's something I haven't seen before. Keep up the good work, and get those suckers based! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288806-death-guard-army/#findComment-3638235 Share on other sites

Hyaenidae
To be honest, the green is a touch bright. A wash or some heavy weathering might help there. Excellent start, though, brother. Adeptus-Alaska
so, Icarium I believe that I can be of a little bit of help.(lepers stick together, after all) let me know how you're painting these guys, I'll help along the way. I really dig what your doing with these guys. and it's nice to NOT see another NL army. every time I see NL's I can only think of the Count from Sesame street (VUN, VUN BOLT SHELL, AH AH) and remember, these are Death Guard. the Sons of Mortarion, the Scions of Barbarus. they are attrition fighters, Chem slingers, world scourers. they do not fear death, they do not concern themselves with pain. they march, ever forward. tireless, implacable, driven. they dispense death. and Chemunition! so with that in mind. make sure you convey a sense of.....arrogance, fearlessness, and the fact that falling in battle is an annoyance at best! Icarium
Will take on board 1000heathens and see what I can do. Ok Furioso Prime its pretty basic but I start with matte gray base coat then first coat of Ceramite white then a light coat of Ushabti bone. After that I wash in all the cracks/crevices with Agrax earthshade followed by a coat of Screaming skull on the higher bits. Will usually give that a light wash too to make it look more worn/damaged. Finally i do a thin edge with Ceramite white. For the Bronze parts it is just the grey then Warplock bronze with an Agrax wash finished with a dry brush of Balthasar gold to get the edges and raised bits a bit of shine to it. And for the green I paint a first coat of Straken green, then on higher bits Warboss green, followed by a wash of Biel Tan green. To edge this I have been mixing Warboss green with Moot green 50/50. I think maybe the Moot green is the too bright part. My main idea is to have them well battle damaged and mud covered. I can't remember where i read it but I believe they liked showing off the wear and tear of battles as a badge of honour sort of thing. Like you say too "tireless, implacable, driven" I want them to look that way, like nothing can stop them. As you can see my blood spatters and battle damage or still at a pretty remedial stage so some tips there would be great too! Again thanks guys for feedback and look forward to your reply Furioso Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288806-death-guard-army/#findComment-3657303 Share on other sites
