Forté
Hi. What's the general view of non TDA marine HQ models mounted on 40mm bases? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288838-hq-base-size-question/ Share on other sites
Heru
Honestly I prefer it, more space to say "this guy / girl right here is special". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288838-hq-base-size-question/#findComment-3638066 Share on other sites
El-Diablo
I've been using 30mm for my HQ's of late, works a treat on Power Armoured figs - I got mine from Heresy miniatures, Adds enough space to add scenic elements but isn't (for want of a better phrase) as out of scale as a 40mm. http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=158 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288838-hq-base-size-question/#findComment-3638138 Share on other sites
Disruptor_fe404
I went whole hog and used a 60mm base. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v515/Disruptor_fe404/Warhammer%2040K/Chapter%20Command%20Part%201/02_darius_full.jpg For the record, he wears Artificer Armour. averykess
Tournaments generally wont allow it. If you are just doing it to make it look cool and your friends don't care, go for it, but it can be seen as modeling for advantage. infyrana
Put the model on its original base and incorporate that into a larger base - like the FW Characters. Best of both worlds if you can make the scenery work. Fibonacci
What's the general view of non TDA marine HQ models mounted on 40mm bases? It depends on wherre you play. I have seen people obsess over "the base the model is supplied with" to the point that metal terminators should be on 25mm and plastic ones on 40mm. For me personally, I don't care. 40mm makes the model stand out as a special unit. Most of the time the pros and cons of going up a base size cancel each other out. As long as the HQ in question does not have a special rule that would be affected by the base size -- like nova powers or something that hits all models in base contact -- I don't see a problem. But that's me. Other people will feel differently. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288838-hq-base-size-question/#findComment-3638976 Share on other sites

Seleucus
I have all my ICs on 40mm bases - it didn't matter when I started, and, as already stated, it makes your IC stand out and gives room for scenery. Just in case I come across a 'tight a**e that gets upset about the base size, I carry spare scenic bases that can be swapped into combat etc to replace the ICs when required. So far no one has quibbled at this. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288838-hq-base-size-question/#findComment-3643459 Share on other sites
Plague Angel
Seleucus brings a good point. If your opponent is concerned about modeling for advantage, it's always worth it to carry some extra empty bases around. The "appropriate" size will be good for things like seeing how many models you're in base contact with, especially when two enemy models have weapon poses that bump and keep them farther apart then they might otherwise be.
