Evening!

Like promised, it's time for my 4th battle report with my Clan Raukaan (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287308-flesh-is-for-loser-in-steel-i-trust-clan-raukaan-1850pts/) and their second battle against Tyranids (same player though). The opponent looked largely different than last time, to see the list he used the first time, click the link: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287858-flesh-is-for-losers-in-steel-i-trust-second-encounter/

His current list looked as follows:

Warrior Prime with loads of upgrades and I'm not even trying to remember them all..

2 Venomthropes

Deathleaper

2 Lictors

3 Shrikes

15 Genestealers

10 Genestealers w/ Broodlord

20 Termagants

30 Hormagaunts

4 Raveners

5 Raveners

2 Zoanthropes

Clearly an experimenting list but because I knew how well this guy plays Nids, I was on my toes..

We rolled the Emperor's Will and Hammer and Anvil and I won the deployment roll. I deployed my Librarian with the Centurions again and placed them back-middle of my DZ as well as I did for the Scout Squad. I placed the Bikes to outflank again, one of the Talons escorting them. Chapter Master I chose to tag with the Sternguard.

Nids started to deploy pretty aggressively, his Hormagaunts pushed as front as he could, Lictors, Leaper and both Genestealer units infiltrating as close as they could, surrounding my 9 models on the board pretty well. His Prime was placed near his "flag" with the Venomthropes and surrounded by the Termagants. Zoanthropes and the Shrikes were hidden behind a large ruin and Raveners were put in the reserves. He failed to seize the initiative and the I started my first turn.

1st Turn: Looked like we would start our battle in daylight and I didn't mind that at all. He chose his Deathleaper to hunt my Librarian, whose Ld dropped down to 7... Figures.. I chose to drop the Sterns again along with one of the Tac Squads. Sterns dropped down next to a ruin that held my flag and was swarming with Genestealers. Tac Squad dropped in front of the Hormagaunts and I divided the unit again with flamers in the front and multimelta left in the back. Shooting phase had little effect as Centurions failed to do squat, Tacs burning away only 4 Gaunts from the 11 I had hit... Sterns had a little better results thinning the larger Genestealer unit by 7! I didn't have anything to charge and I handed the turn to my opponent..

Nid turn 1 went like you would expect, all units swarmed closer, Hormagaunts assaulted the 5-man Tac Squad, 2 dying from overwatch and the weakened Gene unit assaulted the Sternguard, who managed to kill all but two and sent them running.

Turn 2: All but the other Tac Squad arrived from reserves. I shot at the Deathleaper with the Centurions AND with the Bikes but failed to do any damage, again. Sternguard kept defending the flag and wiped 6 Genes from the unit with the Broodlord, wounding the bigger creature twice and sent them running in fear (although they regrouped instantly because they ran into the range of the Zoans and Shrikes).

Nid turn 2 and still no wonders happened. His smaller Ravener unit arrived and happened to pop right in front of the Centurions. His forces rushed towards my end of the board as fast as they could, only the Prime, Venomthropes and Termagants leaving to guard the Nid flag. His Hormagaunts succeeded to eat the rest of the Tac Marines and consolidated forward.

3rd Turn: On third turn things were finally happening. I shot the Deathleaper dead (First blood), along with the two Lictors, one Zoanthrope and charged my furious Chapter Master against the Shrikes, wiping the entire unit, leaving half of his army without synapse creatures in range.

Nids turn 3 happened to be as effective as mine, as he ate up my bikes, crawled closer to my Centurions with one Ravener unit, the other storming against the Sternguard, getting into close combat with 3 beasts. My other half-Tac squad was caught up by the Hormagaunts and my flag was still un-manned (and what a BIG mistake it was..)

4th Turn: My second Tactical Squad fell from the skies and landed into the Nids DZ, hoping I would at least contest the opponent's flag. Chapter Master also stormed towards enemy territory. Nothing other remarkable happened, Sterns beat the Raveners up with 2 grizzled veterans left standing, Centurions killed the last Zoanthrope, leaving his entire assaulting force without Synapse creatures. Chapter Master was just in range to charge against the Termagants AND MADE IT (I wont lie to you, almost 11 inches of pure awesomeness flew against the un-ending Nid tide!) locking them in cc and contesting their flag.

Nid turn started to show the desperation of my opponent. His surviving Raveners ate one of their own and after that the Scout Squad. His Hormagaunts ate up the other half-Tac Squad. His Prime made an assault against the Other Tactical Squad, tying them up, denying them to aid their commander who continued to bash Termagants with fiery fury, taking a wound in the process.

5th Turn: Little changed from turn 4, his remaining attack were finally annihilated, leaving only one Hormagaunt alive, along with 2 Sternguard, Centurions and Librarian. Well even that single Hormagaunt wasn't there at the Nid turn 5 but I had no scoring units at my side of the table... Either I would achieve to survive with the Chapter Master ad contest, winning by 2 points provided with the First Blood and Linebreaker, or to lose by 4. All hanged in the hands of my commander. Who took another wound in..

6th & Final Turn: The game table started to look crowded as people stared at every dice roll we made on the last turn as nothing else we would do would change the outcome. In my turn, the Master took a third wound in, but succeeded to heal up with IWND. Last Nid turn, cold sweat started to gather on my forehead as the Termagants rolled up 5 wounds... A 3, a 4, a 1 (sigh..), another 1 for the FnP.. 1 wound remaining.. I threw the last two dice and got a cheer-filled 5 and a 2. Win for the Raukaan, again!

Close game and I would've played smarter by sticking the Scouts on my objective where they had most certainly survived, giving me points from my own flag. Nevertheless, win's a win and I somehow enjoyed playing the last, EPIC two turns with the Chapter Master!

I'm planning to attend to a local mini-tournament next weekend with the list. I'll notice how it goes afterwards!

Thank you Doyok! :)

Sadly, the tournament has been canceled.. BUT! Me and couple of friends are going to check out the local store that has been relocated and that opened up this monday. Couple of games, hopefully against some new faces (although there's nothing wrong with the familiar ones ;D )!
