Valkyrion
I was thinking of getting two of these http://beta.wickes.co.uk/Heavy-Duty-Decorating-Table-180x60x75cm/p/190009 to use side by side to make a 6x4 table for £60. Doesn't sound too bad to me, but anyone got better ideas? Whilst I'm not exactly flush with money, my time is more valuable to me having only one day off a week, so I'm not of a mind to make my own to save twenty or thirty quid. Also, how are the GW realm of battle boards? Value for money or not? Any decent alternatives? Cheers! walpurgisnacht
Realm of Battle boards are awesome if you like skulls! Seriously, they are everywhere. Also, think about what texture you wish the board to have; because, playing "gray" is not an option. Your figures will slip and slide around on the hilla. My R.O.B. board is painted and flocked with static grass which helps provide some friction. As to using the tables, it may be less expensive and easier to store if you purchased a pair of saw horses and a 4x6 or 4x8 solid insulation board. If you have a big box construction supply store in your area that is where to start. Hope that helps. Fibonacci
It looks like a great idea to me. It's hard to find a portable gaming table at a realistic price but this works. I am not thrilled about the Realm of Battle boards. They are ok but pricey and the hills are never quite where you want them to be. Also, you need to flock it or models slide around too easy. I prefer to use a battle mat or just plain felt for the table top. Lord Commander Scrymgeour
I bought 3'' foam insulation board (6x4) in three pieces for about 20 quid, andother sheet to make hills from. about 4 hours work to make, need to paint it still but I'm anticipating another 5 hours tops.
