Ming
I put this "editorial" up on my blog. http://defendersofcalth.blogspot.com/2014/03/data-slates-and-data-sheets-and.html 1. How do you like the TWV data slate? It was the first one I've purchased. It was a good read and format. I'll likely pick up others that can apply to Ultramarines or IG... 2. How is your gaming group interpreting the application of data sheet formations vs data sheet units into your 40K games and lists? I'd say use of data sheet units seems clear - they expand an existing codex with a new unit. As for Formations themselves, it gets more interesting on how the gaming community applies their use. I'm leaning towards the solution put forth in the blog post... 3. In light of that, how do you like the "St. Tylus Battle Group?"... shandwen
For 40k the dataslates don't seem as game breaking as some of the fantasy ones. That being xaid many of these allow fluffy lists to be somewhat competitive, but lack the all important scoring function. The fact that you are still required to field troops and a hq does a lot to even out formations (that is not a requirement for the fantasy ones). The extra rules are nice, and with the TWV very deadly, but the xost is often to high for competitive play. I would like be able to play some of these, but i can't think of anyone at my shop that runs any. Perhaps the only broken one is the tau one... that could table people with little extra support.
