A Son of Sanguinius
Hi all, I have been thinking of using weathering powders for rust effects. Is there a brand anyone really likes? More importantly, is there a brand anyone really hates? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288889-which-weathering-powder-to-use/ Share on other sites
Hemal
Mig powders seem to be the way to go, but Vallejo are also pretty good Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288889-which-weathering-powder-to-use/#findComment-3638944 Share on other sites
Honda
I've heard good things about Vallejo and I use Mig, so would recommend both. I have not heard anything about Secret Weapons though I'd be interested in hearing about them. Secretpaintgeek
I use pastels from art shops and just scrape them with a sharp blade. Pretty cheap and having a few colours means that I can mix various ones to create more depth/realism to it. Just be sure to get a decent quality one so it isn't 90% binder and they work a treat. Never tried any of the branded ones though but have heard good things about Mig Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288889-which-weathering-powder-to-use/#findComment-3640230 Share on other sites
Iron-Daemon Forge
I use Forge world weather powder & MIG pigment fixer to seal the powder onto the models. PhantomPhixer
Have to ditto the pastel sticks from art shops. Gazillions of colors, you can make your own custom mixes and a stick will last you a lifetime. Way cheaper. use the same methods to fix them in place (Any brand pigment fixer.) You can also mix them with acrylic medium to "flow" them into places, or get a clumping effect. Tyrannicide
Ak Interactive, and the actual powders are basically the MIG stuff reincarnated, from what I've heard. Honda
So this "pigment fixer" you guys mention, what is it made of? I've just been using Isopropyl Alcohol or Futures' (depending on the need). Ramell
I've used Forge World's powders for a while, and I recently started using Vallejo's Pigment Binder. Never tried anything else, so I can't compare it, but it works just fine for me. So this "pigment fixer" you guys mention, what is it made of? I've just been using Isopropyl Alcohol or Futures' (depending on the need). Depends on the manufacturer. Vallejo's is a water-based acrylic.
