Wayniac
I've recently felt the touch of Grandfather Nurgle and am most likely going to start a Nurgle army. I'm not a fan of the white/bone Death Guard color scheme so I'm thinking of doing some kind of splinter warband (although whether or not they are actually Death Guard or just some other Nurgle-aligned force hasn't been decided yet) that I am tentatively referring to as "The Blight" unless I can come up with something better. I was looking at some old artwork and models to get some inspiration and I really started to like the old Rogue Trader-era color scheme of the "Nurgle Renegades" which was sort of a pale/sickly olive drab armor with brown/orange trim (representing rust, I guess). While I don't care that much for some of the weird "space mutant" looks that they have, the color scheme definitely appeals to me. So in thinking of this, being a fairly lazy painter, my idea is to go for a light olive color for the armor plates with slight highlights, followed by 1+ washes of brown to tone it down, muddy it up and in general make it look unpleasant. The trim though has me stumped because I can either go with a brownish color like the RT-era figures or actual rusted metal; I'm partially leaning towards brownish since it will look different, but while the old figures had what could be construed as "ribbing" trim, the newer ones is pretty clear that it's some kind of metal trim, so I'm not sure what to do there. The effect I'm looking for is roughly the "rusted nail" look, so people might be afraid they'll get tetanus if they touch a spike or a blade... Also, an idea I had that might be interesting is to use the new Nurgle's Rot technical color. Would it work to basically, when the model is finished, give it a coat of Nurgle's Rot so it quite literally looks like it's covered in slime? The effect I would want here is to make it look like the model is coated in goo and make people afraid to pick a figure up. Chaeron
If you're lazy - I'd prime white and then use a very heavy green wash, and then you'll only need to pick out the trim! I don't think Rot would work that effectively at making them look slimy - but it may be worth a go on a test model...
