Warsmith Aznable
I played two of my friends yesterday, one game at 1250 and the other at 1750. I will tell you about them. Black Legion (me) Khârn 7 Chosen - Sgt w/ 2LC and combi-flamer, x4 w/2LC, x1 w/Flamer, x1 just because, MoK Land Raider - Dirge Caster 10 Chosen - Sgt w/PF-LC, x4 w/PM, x1 w/meltagun, x4 standard Land Raider - Dirge Caster Imperial Guard Armoured Battle Company with Salamanders allies HQ Tank with a Vanquisher Commissar Tank with the TL Autocannons Squadron of 3 Leman Russ Battletanks Squadron of 2 Hydra Flakk Tanks Squad of 6? Salamanders Squad of 10 Salamanders with a meltagun and a multimelta A Salamanders Captain? with no upgrades We played the "kill everything" scenario with the diagonal deployment. I got first go. I didn't have much to set up. I put Khârn and the LC Chosen in one Land Raider on the left, and the Power Maul Chosen in one Land Raider to the right. He helped me out a lot by putting his Salamanders directly across from Khârn's LR, and his Russ squadrons directly across from my Power Mauls, with his Commissar Tank and Command Tank in the middle, and his Hydras on my left on top of a little rise. First turn I am cautious about driving up next to a multimelta, so I use Khârn's LR to knock out a Hydra, and rushed my Power Mauls toward his tank line on my right: He was happy to play the waiting game with me on my left, not moving his Salamanders in. He wrecked my LR on the right, forcing my Chosen to disembark. His Commissar made some hits with his AC, but couldn't get through their power armour: My Maul Chosen got stuck in, wrecking one tank and stunning the other two. My remaining LR hesitated again, taking a HP off his Command Tank with lascannons: His Commissar tank took out a couple of my Mauler Chosen, his remaining Hydra toodled around to try and bring its cannons to bear against my Mauler Chosen, his Command Tank spanged a useless round against my LR's armour, and his Salamanders refused to blink. Realizing I had been fairly lucky against his Vanquisher cannon, I moved my LR to get an assault position against his Salamanders. My Mauler Chosen, with the expendable guys toward the Commissar tank, wrecked the other two Battletanks, and were happy: Seeing my LR moving in, his Salamanders moved out and tried to get the jump on it. His Command Tank moved forward let the Hydra and Commissar tank maneuver, and his Commissar took out a couple more Mauler Chosen. His Salamanders failed to do anything but move into range of my Dirge Casters... My LR blew the weapons off his Commissar Tank. Seeing his Warlord had no fancy close combat tools, and with the Dirge Casters in range, I decided to split Khârn off from the LC Chosen. Khârn moved in and challenged the Salamanders HQ to a hilariously one-sided throwdown. That man's helmet is probably still in orbit. My LC Chosen tore into his large squad of Salamanders after dropping a painful pair of flame templates on their heads. He managed to kill two of the LC Chosen, but his squad was inundated with AP3 Wounds and cleared off the table. You can see his dead pile behind the Hydra that my Mauler Chosen knocked out with a meltagun shot: Khârn cleaned up his last Salamanders in his assault phase. His Command Tank blew the HB off my LR, the best result he got with his Vanquisher in a long series of suboptimal rolls. That LR was, however, down to its last HP now. I had consolidated Khârn and friends behind some LOS blocking terrain. My Mauler Chosen knocked out his Commissar Tank with a meltagun hit. Turn 5 arrives. My Mauler Chosen remain just inside his deployment zone and put a meltagun round into the rear armour of his Command Tank, knocking it out. Khârn and the LC Chosen run into his deployment zone. With all of his units dead, he has no Turn 5 of his own, and the Black Legion owns the field: My next game was a bit closer. More on that in the next post. Warsmith Aznable
So I used the same 1250 list for the 1750 game, and just added 500 points to it. Heldrake with Hades AC Havocs with 4 Flakk ML Aegis Line with Quad Cannon Imperium: Dark Angels Captain DA Librarian on a Bike 3 Ravenwing 3 Black Knights Storm Raven Lascannon/Multimelta Deathwing Terminators Chapter Master in TDA A couple of OM Inquisitors with TDA & psycannons lots of servo skulls Aegis Line with a Quadcannon Unfortunately I did not take pictures of this game. We played the "capture the flag" scenario on a standard long table edge deployment. He got first go. His objective was in a ruined building in the middle area on the edge of his deployment zone. He put his Captain on it, and Infiltrated some Scouts into the parts of the building outside his deployment zone. He hid his bikers out of LoS, kept his TDA, Black Knights, and Storm Raven in Reserves. I made an Aegis fortress around my objective, which was not in a good position to shoot from, but I sat my Havocs in there and used the Sergeant to man the Quadcannon. The was all the way on my right flank. I put my two Land Raiders ready to roll forward, Heldrake into Air Reserves (of course). Gambling everything on his Reserves, he chose not to do anything but further hide his bikers for his entire Turn 1. I used the opportunity to roll one Land Raider forward, use the other one to shoot at his Scouts, and also shot my ML at his Quadcannon. The Quadcannon was no more. His Turn 2 saw only his Black Knights arriving. Nothing much else happened for him this turn. My Heldrake flew on and shot at his Black Knights, not really doing anything. One of my Land Raiders moved up and took a snap shot at his Scouts. The other LR stayed put and took out a couple of Scouts with its HB, while I shot a single missile through an open window at his Captain, who saved against it. I had killed everything that was within 6" of my Dirge Casters, but by this point he only had a Scout Sergeant and his Captain left. Khârn and my LC Chosen jumped out of the LR and stabbed them to death. Turn 3 his Storm Raven came in, but his TDA mishaped and got sent back to the Battlebarge. I intercepted his Storm Raven, taking off a HP and a missile (which still seems wonky to me). He flubbed both his Lascannon and MM shots, which did wonders for my game. Unfortunately, his Black Knights managed to plasma down Khârn and friends to just one guy, who the Librarian shot through a window. My Heldrake performed Meteoric Descent against his Storm Raven, exploding it, then shot one of his Black Knights. Turn 4 his Black Knights assaulted my empty LR, doing jack squat to it. His TDA dropped right in front of my Havocs and shot up a couple of them, but I still had 3 ML left. His Librarian and Ravenwing attempted to shoot at my Heldrake's rear armour, but he missed his shooting. My Havocs returned fire, but didn't do much of anything to him. My Heldrake took a hard right and stayed on the board, snatching his Librarian off his bike in the process, then shooting a Ravenwing Biker dead. My empty LR turned around and shot his Black Knights dead, while my other LR turned and managed to lascannon one of his Terminators down. I'm a little fuzzy on the end game... My Heldrake flew off the board after he cleared my Havocs off the objective and seized my Quadcannon. He dropped a Lance Strike onto a Land Raider that failed to hurt it. My Mauler Chosen jumped out of their Land Raider and took his Ravenwing off the objective, and then I parked my two Land Raiders to make an AV14 wall between his only remaining unit, the TDA. My Heldrake flew back onto the board, WAAAAAAAY over in a corner where he couldn't intercept it. So we basically traded objectives and shot up most of each other's infantry. It was too far away and too risky for him to break off his characters to try to deny me my objective, and the game ended following Turn 6. Counting up the VP, we both had an objective, Slay the Warlord, and Linebreaker. The winning point was First Blood, accomplished by Khârn and Friends tearing through his Scouts and DA Captain. Not nearly as cool without the pictures, I know... Disruptor_fe404
Good camo on those Russes, I honestly didn't realise they weren't terrain at first! Game Two winning by First Blood? I know that feeling... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289217-black-legion-have-two-games/#findComment-3647178 Share on other sites
Warsmith Aznable
Khârn did well in your games eh.. No matter how I tried, mine always died before achieving something Congratulations on both wins. And yeah.. it is much cooler with pictures In my experience, Khârn needs a Land Raider. If he can get there he can kill lots of stuff, but with only s 3+5++ he desperately needs to avoid being shot at on his way to the party. Really, the only reason I bothered with the report without pictures is because I haven't beaten that guy in forever... Good camo on those Russes, I honestly didn't realise they weren't terrain at first! Game Two winning by First Blood? I know that feeling... Like I said, I hadn't beat that guy in forever. It was disappointing how fast Khârn and his squad got mauled by the Black Knights and their plasma, but I've since read that they shouldn't have been able to take cover saves against that Heldrake's Meteoric Descent, so there is that. Learn something every game... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289217-black-legion-have-two-games/#findComment-3648459 Share on other sites
