UPCOMING Horus Heresy books

I'd assume Master of Mankind will follow the events of Unremembered Empire but who knows. I'm still expecting more collections of short stories than full on novels sadly (although in the case of the Night Lords I shall not complain at anything)

Master of Mankind, whenever I get around to it, would be focused on the Emperor and the War in the Webway. Overall, I'm a lot more interested in the Terran side of the galaxy.

Cue nerdgasms the length and breadth of the Internet

Thank God someone is doing that side of the galaxy. Loyalist legions need more and better coverage, not to mention all the shenanigans that are happening in the Palace basement. I hope we get to see some knights errant down there with the custodes ;)

You'd better haul arse on that project or we will send huggy, male prison guards to stand vigil over you till you finish.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be waiting with cash in hand the day MoM hits shelves...but the whole Webway thing doesn't do a lot for me ("Over here, stoic and loyal Custodians! Over here, generically evil cuz I'm evil daemons! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!") and I think the Emperor works best when he's kept OFF center stage, something like Yahweh in the Old and New Testament or Paradise Lost .

Attempts to put him in the spotlight (The Last Church) have so far been...not to my taste.

Truth be told, I'd love to see the great and mighty A D-B write a sequel to Betrayer. So many questions from that book - the fall of the XII Legion to Khorne, the relationship between the World Eaters and their new Daemon Primarch, and the fate of Cyrene.

Hell, if FW ever made a miniature of Cyrene (no attacks, but offers a significant boost to nearby Word Bearer and cultist forces) and Argel Tal (preferably in his Daemon form), I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm with you. At the end of Betrayer, Khârn is disgusted and disturbed by Angron. The same issue pertains to Perturabo. He finds the Emperor's Children to be disgusting, yet he eventually goes Chaos as well. That's one of the things I think is missing from the HH series so far, why disgust should eventually turn into fealty.

I think it's past time we get a glimpse into the Emperor's mind and some understanding on what are truly baffling decisions on his part...it'll probably get into the 'greater beings make certain options due to their higher, wider and deeper vision and unfathomable minds', but that doesn't mean some rationality shouldn't be applied.

I think we need to stay out of his head; he makes the decisions that others can't what we think is psychotic or inconceivable he has to make those choices because it's not to benefit himself it's to ensure man survives.

He understands and becomes all that is wrong but what is strong about humanity.

The last church is my favourite piece of literature from the heresy

Not sure why BL don't announce new novels months in advance like they used to, and like every other publishing house does. Can't really see the upside to keeping their cards so close to their chest confused.gif

I think plans do change as well as independent author's availabilities. I'd love it - but can't see it happening.

NO, NO, NO!!!

Sorry Greyall. Usually I find myself in agreement with you but here I am not. I loved The Last Church but it was crucial that we didn't see inside the Emperor's mind, only saw him through the eyes of a mortal. For me a crucial part of the appeal is that I don't know whether I'm pro- or anti- Emperor. I read one book and think, "I love the Emperor's vision, I'd fight for that!". The I read another book and see the big E and his deeds through the eyes of a different character and go, "He's such a censored.gif . I can see why the traitor Primarchs decide he needs to be overthrown."

Let us see inside his head and we'll have a better idea whether he's the idealistic visionary some believe or the bloodthirsty maniac others believe.

In The Sigillite

Malcador tells an Imperial Army officer that he has a long running debate with the Emperor. The Emperor believes that the true purpose of a leader is to guide his people/species to the maturity where he the leader becomes irrelevant because the people can govern themselves. Malcador believes that mankind will never reach such a state and that the Emperor will always be needed.

Such a noble goal makes me definitely pro-Emperor if it's true BUT we don't know that's what the Emperor really believes, we don't know if it's what he really said to Malcador, it may just be what Malcador wants the Imperial Army officer to believe the Emperor believes, and so the intrigue remains.
