Corax Ravenlord is coming out the 2nd of May just a heads up if you want to edit that in.

That's what I love about the Abnett. He isn't restricted from other Legions. He just hops down from his immensely tall pedestal and remarks "I'mma make the First Legion awesome now" and everyone else just gets the hell out of his way.

And yes, I know there is no true restriction, but it is clear that most authors are cmpletely focus on a particular Legion or two only

i think im the only person left on this forum that still isn't bothered either way what dan abnett does or not. should i feel dirty?

i'd quite like sarah cawkwell to have a heresy shot

Yes you should.

A blamming squad is on it's way.

As for Cawkwell, quite a few of us would really enjoy it if she did. After talking with her...there seem to be a few problems with having her able to do it. One is the pecking order (which Abnett can skirt around easily) and another is that BL is very picky about what is being written IIRC

I think that if we made a fan coalition (lol) we could push to give her a novel if she so wanted.

Nice to know a company we enjoy the product of is archaic.. pecking order aye? I wonder if we asked alan moore nicely enough.. or maybe clive barker? I'm terribly sorry dan, clive said he wanted this one..

but I'm good for a "lets get miss cawkwell a heresy novel" petition to BL :)

Shall we start the petition then? I would ask her again to see if she's interested in doing it and if she's fine with us petitioning :)

As for pecking order...yeah it's kinda draconian to say the least. To be honest I wouldn't mind if they kicked out Nick Kyme to make room for miss Cawkwell in

Indeed, if she be good for I shall sign

On the nick kyme note, I began not being so keen on his work, then on the open day I listened to him read an excerpt, then everything I'd ever read of his suddenly changed, and as such I need to re read his works coz now I know how he sounded it out. Yes I'm weird, have younot seen my wip? :p

Dan Abnett and Dark Angels? Dan "EMPEROR'S EXECUTIONERS BECAUSE censored.gif YOU" Abnett?

Not looking forward to it.

Didn't A D-B say a few times that he wanted to write a few things about Legion so and so and was forbidden to because someone else called dibs on it?

I seem to remember him saying otherwise, but whatevs.

As for Dan Abnett and the VI, I am sorry, but I steadfastly refuse to blame an author for something we should be blaming certain fans for.

I agree. Especially with how Abnett wrote UE and included others view of them as "the executioners" (most likely with hindsight). I think some of the authors have commented within the BL that they didn't expect a rabid response out of the fans - pun intended ;)

Speaking of UE have you read the Dark Angel parts KotR? Seems pretty good so far even with Curze burning through them like they weren't even there. He sets up a good background for them - six wings, esoteric weapons, self dependency to explain secret nature - not to mention the fact that Bobby G. considers the Lion his Spiritual Liege :P

Lol sure to get flak on that last one though haha

The best portrayal of the Dark Angels so far (imo) was in the two short stories, The Lion and Savage Weapons, by Gav Thorpe and ADB respectively.

Wasn't a fan of the Lion in UE, too different from past portrayals, so not really as excited about this as everyone else seems to be ermm.gif

I'm the exact opposite. I'm a huge Dark Angels fan (/player/collector/modeler) and I've been so disappointed with every portrayal until Unremembered Empire - which I LOVED! So I am very very excited for Mr. Abnett to take a crack at the mighty and glorious First Legion.

I don't see any glaring differences between the Lord of Caliban in Savage Weapons & his portrayal in Unremembered Empire.

At least, not compared how Gav Thorpe wrote him in The Lion, where he was killing his own Legionaires at the slightest provocation while sitting all alone in dark rooms and babbling to himself, and the overall impression this reader got was that someone had cut and pasted "Lion'El Johnson" and "Dark Angels" into a story that was originally about Konrad Curze and the Night Lords.
