AtlasDM
Does anyone have any experience with tarantula sentry guns? For the points they don't seem too bad, especially the hyperios variant. It seems like it might be better than a lot of other anti-air units. Thoughts? BrotherCaptainArkhan
In practice they're good in a pinch, but only if your opponent is fielding minimal air (e.g. 1-2 flyers). For multiple 'tough' flyers (Heldrakes) and flyer spam (Necrons), you need serious, dedicated anti-air. Depending on the army style you're playing, the two options I'd recommend are a Contemptor Mortis (gunline) or multiple flyers of your own like Stormtalons (if you're playing a fast moving army like all-bikes). You also cannot go wrong with an ADL's quadgun, but it needs to be backed up with something else - one of anything doesn't really work in 40k. Axagoras
4 hyperios will wreck some face, 140 points for 4 tl krak missiles (bs 3) but with skyceptor to boot, (4 1 man squads, since i usually run marines w/ allies) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289444-tarantula-sentry-guns-any-good/#findComment-3650716 Share on other sites
Fallen11
You can only have 3 if I am not mistaken. 1-3 per heavy support. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289444-tarantula-sentry-guns-any-good/#findComment-3650772 Share on other sites
AtlasDM
I believe Axagoras was referring to 3 units of 1 tarantula in his primary detachment and 1 unit of 1 tarantula in his allied detachment. BrotherCaptainArkhan
not taruntula, hyperios air defence missiles from IA aeronautica They've been amalgamated into one entry as of IA: War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes. Axagoras
the marine sentry gun has always been a different entry from the hyperios air defense launcher, especially since 1 is fast attack and 1 is heavy support. Just because a heavy weapon team and a saber can take lascannons doesnt make them the same Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289444-tarantula-sentry-guns-any-good/#findComment-3651576 Share on other sites
netminder69
What Arkhan said is technically correct. In IA2SE the Tarantula has an upgrade option to Hyperios launchers in place of the heavy bolters and they're all Heavy options, no fast attack.
