Cpt Von Trapp
I just can't get my head around the new Tempestus Scions. The rules are ok but I just don't like the sculpts. So I was wondering whether I could use Kasrkins in their place. So I'd use the new rules but keep my old beloved figures. I appreciate if I'm playing at home with my mates and kids then providing they are in agreement I can probably field whatever I like. But what about at my Local Game Store or some kind of Official Tournament? Does anyone know what the official position is/should be? I know GW would rather me put loads of money down on their new range but the Scions just look wrong. -- Oh and don't get me stated on the Ogryn revamps :-( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/ Share on other sites
walter h
I don't see any reason why you could not. The Scions are just updated, versions supposedly. Nicodemus Doloroso
Yeah I see no reason why you couldn't. Kasrkin are fully WYSIWYG compliant: humans in carapace armour with hotshot lasguns. What else would kasrkin be used for? Vets I guess but that seems to be pushing the envelope more than scions since their weaponry is wrong. Hellrender
The Karskin were also called storm troopers as oppossed to Militarium Tempestus (or whatever the spelling might be). I think GW just removed them from the webbie to prevent any Storm Trooper name confusion, wether it worked out or not is an entirely different story. The long story short, yes, just use them as they are the same. You dont suddenly stop using guardsmen now they are called Militarium instead of IG. In general old models are fine, as long the model is not giving you any advantages, like great height differences or base size differences. WarriorFish
Scions, Kasrkin and Stormies are one and the same. Use them as you like and anyone who disagrees is a fool and just saved you the hassle of playing against an idiot Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3651323 Share on other sites
Cpt Von Trapp
Cheers everyone. Much obliged. Glad to know that common sense seems to still rule the roost. Plus the advantage that I can call anyone who disagrees with this position an "idiot" certainly gets my vote :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3651460 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
A spade is a spade Cap, and if it's (un)common sense you're after we have that in spades here too It's a new codex and we haven't got much use with them yet so don't forget to report back your findings so we can all learn from your experiences Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3651494 Share on other sites
march10k
Actually, I think GW removed the kasrkin and the astronauts because they look better than the scions, and it would be humiliating if metal sales spiked while the new models flopped. This way, if you don't already have models, the only way to play scions is to buy the ugly plastics. Nicodemus Doloroso
@March10k - it's a matter of taste. I personally really like the new scion models. I've got 10 astronauts and 25 or so kasrkin. I'd trade then straight up for 7 boxes of scions. Idlem
I like the Scions, but I'll always like the look of the Kasrkin better. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3651639 Share on other sites
Andhil
I like the Scions just fine. The only minor thing that bugs me is the trims around the breastplate. Besides that, I'm totally going to get some. march10k
~shrug~ to each, his own. I think they look like overweight boer mercs with breatsplates, excessive facial hair, and silly french hats...actually, I can forgive the hats...it's a return to some really cool models that I now use as officers! Spacefrisian
Scions, Kasrkin and Stormies are one and the same. Use them as you like and anyone who disagrees is a fool and just saved you the hassle of playing against an idiot The correct action here is to ask if they have paid for your models, after that they are fools. Jamafore
Looking at the scions, the only thing I really don't like is the heads, but that is easily fixed. IMO, of course Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3653134 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
I have 20 old Storm Troopers and 20 Kasrkin (well 24 if I count all the special weapons). I used them as IST's (Inquisitorial Storm Troopers) and have used them as Acolyte henchmen in Carpace with a hot-shot lasgun. I plan now on using them as Scions, buying a box of plastic Scions for a command squad for my 4 squads of troops and taking them as allies to my Codex: Inquisition force along with my two really old school metal Commissars. So you're in good company of people who still like the old models Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3653150 Share on other sites
Shaolin_Monkey
I intend to do much the same as everyone else by the sound of it. I have about 60odd Kasrkin and prefer the look of them to the scions. Plan to run Tempestus codex primary then ally in Coteaz and some henchmen with a Vindicare from codex:GK with an Inquis detachment for two more Inquisitors from codex:=][= Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289487-kasrkin-repurposed-as-scions/#findComment-3653629 Share on other sites
