scrimdog
OK so iv got my codex and apart from being overjoyed with new units and wargear iv come stuck with stracken. Basically I cant figure out what he can do. He is strength 6 with 3 attacks a pistol and ccw so plus one. But he can smash so for 26 melta bombs I can have stracken at strength 10 strike at innicitive and 3 attacks 4 on charge. Anybody want to help or tell me where im going wrong? Wraith776
The 26 melta bomb part? Always take that many melta bombs! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289553-need-help-with-new-stracken-rules/#findComment-3652369 Share on other sites
Nicodemus Doloroso
Well you basically have a choice: full attacks (4/5 on the charge) at str 6 ap 2 or 1/2 your number of attacks at str 10 ap 2. weycon
I think it should have been for the cost of 26 meltabombs. --- Double strenght smash attack makes you halves the attack characteristic. 3 base attacks, gets halved to 1,5. +1 for charging +1 for pistol / ccw Is the 1,5 rounded up or down? scrimdog
Thank s guys thats what I wanted to know that you came to same answer as me. I understand the smash rule and how to use it. It was just hard to belive that our man stracken can mulch out strength 10 at I 4. 4 strength ten on the charge this man can pop a raider its incredible. Yarric is also combat god now with EW as well as the old get up n go rule plus a huge points drop. I collect guard to compliment my main armys of ultras and nidds but I think I might begin guard full time at this rate always loved the idea of well hard squishy umis taking on the galaxies finest. johnyocum
Weycon, it rounds up. The Tervigon was cited in the FAQs (before they went down), and that was when it was a 3 ATT model in 5th ed. Nicodemus Doloroso
So still 4 attacks on the charge at str 10, AP 2. Wow Straken will be pretty deadly. Still not sure the steep price tag is worth it though especially with no assault vehicle delivery options. Kierdale
Keep in mind that he has to accept challenges. If I fought against an IG armour with him in it, I'd have a combat boss character make a bee line for him. So: identify your opponent's CC killers...and throw some infantry at them to keep clog their weapons with gore delay them. So: identify your opponent's CC killers...and throw some infantry at them to keep clog their weapons with gore delay them. I don't know if you need a combat boss ... Straken has only Initiative 3 and toughness 4. Seems to me an assault marine sergeant with a power sword could hurt him pretty bad, while the rest of the assault squad would blend Straken's CCS pretty easily. Again, not saying he's bad, he's definitely got some upside but he seems rather overpriced (say I, having never play-tested him). I don't have my old codex to hand, but didn't Straken have better initiative before? I remember it being a big plus that he could strike at str 6 at initiative order. Doesn't seem so much of a much in the context of I 3 ... I like the idea of burying tough enemy close combat-oriented characters/stuff under a pile of bodies better than employing a Straken-type to keep them away from my tanks and grenadiers anyway, though. For the price of Straken you can have twenty regular guardsmen with two meltaguns and 10 pts left over. Or 43 conscripts ... Make that 35 conscripts plus a priest. FlamingDeth
The big deal with Straken was the AP 2 at initiative, and being able to represent him with a space marine. WarriorFish
The big deal with Straken was the AP 2 at initiative, and being able to represent him with a space marine. I think more people used him for background reasons to get a Marine in than anything else. I'm glad that option still remains Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289553-need-help-with-new-stracken-rules/#findComment-3653289 Share on other sites
BFeeder
Granting relentless to his squad is a nice touch too. Whilst you would likely get better value for your points elsewhere, giving his command squad a Master of Ordnance and sticking them in a Chimera/Taurox could be fun. It would also be hilariously risky to use it before an assault move as the MoO attack doesn't appear to have a minimum range Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289553-need-help-with-new-stracken-rules/#findComment-3653347 Share on other sites
