So does anyone actually use Land Raiders?

Some background - I do use LRs when I play Chaos SM and they are still somewhat effective even with all the anti-AV these days.

So, I'm surprised that hardly any GK lists include them.

But I'm assuming this is because GKs are already expensive, and they already have things like Chimeras / Psycannons that have more firepower, and already have other units like NDKs that can act as 'tanks'?

Still, does nobody use LRs to deliver GK TDAs?

Thanks for the opinions.

Nope.

Servo Skulls shut them down.  Most would recommend Ravens to deliver GKT.

There's still enough in the game that either penetrates AV14, or auto glances to hull point a LR to not really make it worth the investment.

Unless you pull shenanigans and Void Shield / Dangle PFG one.  For some reason.

I still take my Redeemer sometimes to deliver my hammernators but not as often as I would like. It is an expensive delivery system that usually doesn't make up its points cost. Mostly it gets fielded because it is the FW one and it is really nice looking on the table, if it gets to kill anything then, YAAAHH! Most likely tho, as Gent said, Ravens seem to survive better as does the Kights.

Land Raiders are expensive bullet magnets that often fail to do their job. It's usually better just to get another squad than bother with a Raider. We're already so low on bodies and so expensive to field, 250 is a lot to sink on a single tank that everyone and their dog took meltaguns for last edition (and still do, due to Knights, Necron/Eldar mech etc).

While I still find my Land Raiders fun to play, my GKs are just too expensive per model to field expensive LRs.  As such, the only vehicle my Ghostwing fields is the occasional Stormraven (although my Ghosts might running some Imperial Knight escort missions in the days to come).

That said, I love the idea of 3-6 DT LRs in a Codex =][= list, carrying minimal squads and cheap inquisitors.

Bog standard Land Raider.  I wanted the anti-armor and it was bought back with Codex: WH.  I'm in the process of tracking down a multi-melta turret bit to replace the storm-bolter.  It's served me well over the years, and it's not things like flamers or bolter-fire I lack, it's heavy weapons.  It blazes away at enemy armor while moving forward, stalling for time until something shows itself as the target I want to throw my retinue into.  It's more of a reactionary move as opposed to an aggressive move, but it's worked for me.

Exorcists are a HS slot, and a lot harder to get in large numbers with Allies.  Land Raider was both a protection and henchmen delivery system as well as better AV and still maintaining a long range anti-armor presence.  It was a safe and good investment at the time that has continued to do well.

For the record, I also do have an Exorcist.  The combination of an Exorcist, a Land Raider, and a Retributor squad was a good mix of long range firepower for me ;)

I was thinking more in a primary Sisters list. I'm wouldn't ally Sisters just to get an Exorcist. Sigh...if only Pentient Engines were MC's, not walkers...

Yeah Rending heavy bolters on Retributors is pretty brutal. I've had to advance into that before, not fun for expensive infantry.

I never got the love for Rending Heavy Bolters.

When we have Psycannons.

Rending, more Strength and more Shots. All for the loss of a bit of range.

Psycannons FTW! tongue.png

36" versus 24" is a big difference. Also, Retributors don't cost what Purgators or Purifiers do. You get your Rending spam on the cheap with Sisters.

Yeah, that makes sense. That's what I'm thinking I will do for my Inquisitor's ride as well. I've already got enough anti-personnel weaponry in my army so I don't think the Crusader or Redeemer would be as useful, whereas I think my army could benefit from more AT fire while the thing trundles towards enemy lines with my DKoK Storm Grenadiers in their chimeras in tow. Although I do prefer a more aggressive mode of attack than what you've described, I still think the standard LR sounds good.
