Proposal: a Blood Angels "primer" strategies recap

I would love (and I'm sure the same applies to all the newcomers to the forums and the BA) to have a pinned topic with a recap of strategies and related unit choices for the Blood Angels with this codex...

that would require that one (or more than one) of the "senior" BA players would compile such a list...

As for other games, such a reference topic would be a good place for newcomers to understand the 'slang' and the basic concepts around topics like 'null deployment lists', 'BA mech', 'mech hybrid' or others.

(Example of obscure slang for me: Dakka, or Dakka Baal)

It is confusing for people like me, even if I get the main point in the slang, but because I did not play any other style if not 'full jump' a few editions ago, and now a somewhat 'mech' play...

just as a reference, I would highly appreciate something structured that has: explanation of slang, example list (1500-1750), basic strats, strong-points/weak-points analysis and a description of the role that the various units have in the strats.

I realize that It could be time consuming, therefore I propose a 'community approach', where the people that play a specific list draft the paragraphs for their play style.

I found some interesting topics on Mephiston, Corbulo and the Predator Baal, but nothing that addresses general structures of lists (apart from the excellent DoA post in the BA Resources Thread)

Dakka is the Ork word for solid-projectile firepower. Dakka Baal is a Baal Predator with assault canon turrets and heavy bolter side sponsons.

And I approve of your idea, though I won't really be able to help much as I'm not at all a BA player. I'm sure others will be along though to help you out and perhaps even join your mini project :)

I'd suggest you try PM'ing Morticon, who (if he has the time) would surely be quite delighted to help and who has invaluable experience as a BA tournament go-er :)

This is a good idea, but the problem with these types of posts is everyone has their own opinions and threads like this typically end up as a list of contradicting information which is less helpful and more confusing to new players. Not saying we shouldn't give it a go though... For a start, I'd take a look at K&Fs thread on Competitive Essentials for BAs.

I'm happy to help. I've been having a lot of success with a shooty BA list recently, so I'm happy to pitch in on that score. I also started a tactica on MSU Blood Angels a few months ago but that fell by the wayside a bit, could link it across though.

Well, finally i'm back and i'll make a mokup of my idea... if someone is interested in  adding content, and if we manage to do something usefull, i'll propose to put it in a new topic...

My personal main problem with the Blood Angels Resources post, is that it's not categorized, and some of the posts are not reachable anymore...

I'll write down a backbone schema of my idea, please correct me and help me fill in the blanks. The description of the single units are just an example. Everything needs refinements because i'm not an expert player...

General Concepts

A DoA list concentrates on the "Descent of Angels" rule. Unfortunatelly in 6th, we can only deploy in reserve 50% of the units, therefore an all-in version of this strat is not viable anymore.

In the 6th edition, a DoA list could be seen as basically a list that relies heavilly in Jump Pack troops and uses key Deep Striking units.

Example Army List

(to be filled in)

Key Units and Roles: Backbone

  • Sanguinary Priests / Corbulo
A force with a relatively high body count, heavily relies on FnP boubbles to increse the survivability of the high costing marines
    before they get in combat
  • Assault Marines
    The backbone of the force
  • Death Company
5-WS, 5-A and S-5 in charge is really strong. Unfortunatelly the Death Company is costly, and with Jump Packs even more.
Lists that play them, often puts them in a Drop Pod, buy i still prefer a Storm Raven
  • Vanguard Veterans
    Heroic Intervention Anyone?
  • Sanguinary Guard
    Flying terminators, really expensive unfortunatelly

Key Units and Roles: Tank Killers

  • Sternguard Veteran Squad
I've seen 10 sternguard in a droppod with a sanguinary priest, combat squadded in 2 squad with 5 combi-melta and 5 combi-flamer to really bring havoc turn 1 to the enemy lines... Really costly, requires at least another podded unit as support, or these 385 points will just vanish turn 2
  • Assault Marines
With a double melta option, they can provide some close range firepower in the 3-5th turn range
  • Furioso Dreadnought
In pod, it gives a nice close-range meltagun in addition of the omnipresent threat of a dreadnought in the middle of the opponent's lines

Key Units and Roles: Infantry Havoc

  • Sternguard Veteran Squad
  • Furioso Dreadnought
  • Death Company Dreadnought
  • Death Company

Should also probably point out that we can also play a pretty mean gunline too. Devs and tac marines or un-packed assault marines in cover and backed up by priests and lib with prescience can kick out a lot of hurt and really take some shifting. Baals and vindicators or attack bikes can then run interference on anything which needs to die or is trying to shelter in cover from the main line for example.
