Am I reading this right?

In order to unlock drop pods I have to pick the correct doctrine for the Legion Praetor...

It says in the description that if I do so, I can't field any unit that can't arrive by deepstrike...

So, if I want drop pods I can't field a Sicaran or a Whirlwind Scorpius? Or bikers?

Not in the same detachment, at least.  But otherwise, that's correct.  You get drop pods by being a drop pod army.  I believe the only units that can drop pod without the RoW are dreadnoughts (via the Dreadnought drop pod in Book 2) and the Deathstorm drop pods (also in book 2).

Also, I do believe the new Raven Guard RoW allows Veteran Tactical Squads, Legion Tactical Squads, Heavy Support Squads and Seeker Squads to all have Drop Pod dedicated transports without the need for any other unit to either be deepstriking, or in a Drop Pod themselves.

But Ishagu's problem is that he has to pick a RoW just to get the Drop Pods, period. Although IIRC, @Ishagu, you're doing Sons of Horus, right? I think their RoW in Massacre has an option for drop pods, but it is a RoW.

I'll deepstrike termies with Meltas alongside Horus instead of running drop pods...

Lol I am definitely running the Primarch. His serpent scale's special rule gives him a 3++ re roll 3++ if he takes damage as suffering a wound IS definitely an adverse effect on his profile. Sounds like a good way to Troll an opponent :-P

While I understand why people are making that argument, I personally view such actions as rather tasteless.  Horus is already a beast.  Using a technicality in order to give him a second reroll like that sits really poorly with me. I seriously doubt I am the only one sees it that way.

Back on topic:  I also had not noticed that Drop podding was a RoW only. I guess I will also need too adjust my planned list.

The profile Wounds is the starting wounds not the current. Losing a wound doesn't change the profile.

Edit: just re-read rules for taking wounds and it does say to take 1 off the models Wounds so maybe...but it feels icky

Like I said in the Primarchs 1v1 thread, I think that rules as written, it works that way.

But there is no way that that is what was intended.  It essentially gives Horus 18 wounds to play with.

But that's how he stood toe to toe with the Emperor ;)
