I love GotC. They're the ones ive chosen to make my main army to -FINALLY- put paint to model on. xD

Your's though is amazing work. Keep it up! Im excited to see what else you have in store for us!

I was curious,(I know you said it was 1kHeathens recipe, but I couldnt find it) how you were able to get such a clean looking metal look for the armor.

Thanks Xenthor, for the metal I do the following:

Basecoat: 60 % Leadbelcher and 40 % black.

Shade: Mix black paint and black ink together and add a bit of water, it makes for a great shade.

Highlight: I use ironbreaker for the highlights. If you want to make them sharper you can use a slightly watered down runefang steel.

Its based off of Heathens method, I changed a few things to my own preferences. I hope to see your GofC soon.

Another marine done (took me while with this one):

Brother Zeraph, 1st Squad, 3rd Company.

Brother Zeraph is an 86 year old warrior and the second oldest in the squad. He could have made for sergeant but his uncontrolable temper has kept him away from any command positions as he is prone to sudden mood changes. When he served his time in the chapters assault company he lost his eye and the lower left side of his face which had to be replaced with bionics. Since then he has never worn a helmet, only a rebreather system. He considers this wound to be his proof of loyalty to the chapter and the Emperor and therefore displays it proudly.

I think this guy might just me by favorite in the squad so far. I was initially going to give him a plasma gun but it did not fit his pose and looked weird so he just got the traditional bolter. And the head... Oh my, I love that head. I think it might be one of my top 3 heads I have done so far. Its a really nice design, grim and stern looking. I love it.

I actually have a question, I would like to hear your input brothers. I was thinking about the veterans, the "ravenwing" and the "deathwing" of the Guardians of the Covenant. My thoughts about the veterans was how to represent them and I have three ideas: personal heraldy on the right pauldron, white/black? helmet or both combined?

About the 2nd company, Ive never been a fan of bikes and landspeeders but I came up with my own specialists detachment within the chapter: "The Order of Castellans". They are basically a group of veterans chosen from all the chapters companies by the chaplaincy to protect the chapters cathedral, relics and to serve as bodyguard for the High Chaplain. To distinguish them I was thinking about giving them black armour and crimson robes, maybe adding a skull on their right pauldron, any thoughts on this unique formation? Another thought for this formation is that they remain outside of the chapter regular formation and logistics and dont count as part of the whole "1000 man chapter".

And for the 1st company, rather than saying they have enough suits of TDA for the entire company (like the original Deathwing) some of them could be deployed in regular PA, but theres my problem, how to distinguish them.

Anyways, comments, critics and ideas are of course welcome. smile.png

Did someone say "death by plasma"? :D

Loved painting this guy, Im curious to hear what you think about the OSL efect on the plasma gun. What could I do to make it better? I want to add it to the sergeants plasma pistol as well. I also think hes the first marine where I actually like the end results on the chapter badge. Painting swords is easy, but painting 2 crossed swords and making them stand at a 90º angle where they meet, thats tough on a rounded surface.

Anyways, C&C welcome of course. Only 4 to go! :D

As mentioned, great stuff. Love Zeraph in particular.

I am not an expert on OSL, but I feel the plasma coils themselves need to be considerably bluer and brighter than the glow around them - at the moment they are pretty much identical in shade (in fact, maybe the glow is even a bit brighter).

I think you might be right. I will try to brighten up the couls a bit more, maybe add a thin drybrush of pure white ond the edges.

Forte: Well, I like OSL for stuff like plasma coils and magic, things that emit lots of light all the time, its a nice technique to learn. I have added a bit a light white drybrush and it definetly looks better now.

MagicMan: Thanks. Yes Im happy too heh I just had that bit of Ultramarine nostalgia but all is right now. I will most likely on occasion when I get tired of painting GofC just add a single marine from other chapters to this thread, just to have some variation (I am infact planing the bits for an Ultramarine Sergeant).

Making some very great progress, as for the osl it looks good, would have to agree about brightening the coils a little also I think the glow should be limited to the edges around the coils but that's more an opinion of mine for osl.

Great stuff!

I should have been more specific really shouldn't I with my osl dislike. When I say I don't usually like it, it's because it's usually over done and used too much. Space Marines eye lenses. Nothing says "shoot me in the head" more than glowing eyes. Noise Marine weapons, every single light and lense on tanks with huge airbrush overspray and no actual sense of direction because the luminescent glow bends into gaps.

The way you have used it and what you have said makes sense. Plasma coils may glow (but no one truely knows but hey, this is science fantasy), daemons may give off strange light, vehicle lights may be on at night (though why would they have the need for headlights with autosenses and night vision other than to scream "we're here. Bet you can't shoot me in the dark!".

The latest addition looks Great. I remember many moons ago when lenses were flat and people would complain.

It's all fashion. End of the day though, they're your models. You paint them how you want. No one can tell you you're wrong.

And thats the beauty of it, FREEDOOOOOM *cue Mel Gibson voice*. But indeed I prefer lenses without glare because A) I doubt they would give off enough light to actually lighten up that much and B) as Forte said, running around with shinning eyes is like running around with a giant banner on the back saying "Im here, give me a headshot!" (which by the way is why I never give my marines backpack banners).

It's all a matter of taste. Some people like their Marines to have glowy, foreboding eyes of doooooooom and massive banners that proudly display their Chapter's greatest deeds in the face of overwhelming odds, even if it's a giant bull's-eye.

I change my mind from model-to-model and from Chapter-to-Chapter. :P
