Sure, some chapters have a better easthetic for wearing a banner on their back, like black templars because if you are charging up the hill chainsword in hand alongside your 300 mates then you might aswell wear a banner on your back :D And if Im painting display pieces I like to add glowing effects, just never too exagerated.

 

But now, a squad related question: I already have 2 plasma weapons (pistol and gun) so what heavy weapon should I add? More plasma doom and give them a plasma cannon or something else? What do you think.

Well this is refreshing. Your Ultras were superb by the way but this stuff has got me hooked. The GoC have always interested me as there is just enough info to give you a taste but enough room to add your own spin.

Model wise so far, its a toss up for me between Zeraph and Veras as too who is my favourite. Zeraph for his all round baddass look but the shot looking down the barrel of Veras' plasma gun is outlandishly cool, I think this is to do with his shoulder pauldron.

As for painting advice I cant offer you any as you seem to have it nailed but I would like to comment on your musings for your Second Company alternative.

Your Order of the Castellans idea just smacked me off my feet. IT NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!!

Here's a few ideas....

• Go with the black armour and usual crimson robes as you suggested.
• How about mixing in some Legion of the Damned heads and limbs with skulls on, (remove any flames). When mixed with the red robes this should differentiate them enough from regular LoD.
• Maybe add cloaks to some models in the squad, really giving the impression of shrouded monk types.
• Add back banners to each member in the squad.....
• Use fancy back packs.There is some nice ones available on the Ravenwing Command squad sprue that you could pick up from a bitz order.
• Maybe add shoulder shield thingys (that you get on Grey Knights). you could add personal heraldry to these.
• The flagellant sprue (Warhammer Empire) has some dangling keys on chords, maybe this could represent their role in your fluff (again Bitz order is your friend
• Maybe they could be led by your own version of Asmodai?
• Give them a propper souped up transport, possibly using the fancy bits of the Dark Shroud Landspeeder, Dark Talon or ravenwing command squad mini shrine

I dont know what rules you would use for them as I don't have the DA codex. maybe company veterans. Or you could use them as an allied detachment with Sternguard rules. that could give you a heavy flamer and an opportunity to do a robed up version of this fella......

Anyway if you haven't already guessed I'm a big fan of this project. Hope you don't mind me taking up your plog with ideas, hope some of them help or at least provide avenues for your creative juices to flow.

Nice, good amount of ideas you have given me Yak, thanks. Black Armour and crimson robes will make them stand out, but your idea of adding bone elements like the LoD that is BRILLIANT! Oh and of course capes/cloaks, I like that too. I have in fact been looking at the GK shoulder pads and some in particular cought my eye for these chums:

The second one indeed is for terminators but considering that according to fluff the GofC add texts from sacred books to their armour I think it could look great and having the shield would be perfect for heraldy. Or as you said, maybe just the small shields would be nice. The keys, that is also a great idea, perfect for the meaning of the word "Castellan" which is the guy who takes care of a castle.

Im planning to field them as Company Veterans and as command squads (to protect the High Chaplain), giving the a revered standard. I even created their own company master: "Master Baratheon, Commander of the Castellans and Custodian of the Relics." Clad in artificier PA and wielding a 2-handed power sword known as the "Blade of Sorrows" (cue to fancy fluff, Im working on it).

I would like to add a character to represent "High Chaplain Anaziel the Pious, Master of Sanctity and High Interrogator of the Guardians of the Covenant". I love chaplains, so sue me I was thinking about using Asmodai Im just not sure how to add that torture thing he has and make something diferent with the same rules. Otherwise I would just use a regular Interrogator Chaplain.

Great additions to the army Anaziel, especially Brother Zeraph really badass. And your OSL plasmgun looks good. And for the heavy weapon option Plasmacannon or Heavy bolter, the last one not gonna be the best in game but the large ammo magazine is very cool visually.

I wont be adding a lot of MK VI helmets because, although they are nice, they are not my favorite mark of helmets. But still I felt like this guy would look good with one and I think he does. And boy, I hate mold lines on hands, they are so annoying. C&C welcome, you know the drill :)

Fantastic GoC! I really liked these guys when I saw them in the DA codex. They have a great look and just enough background to make them interesting.

Why thank you brothers, your words serve as a great inspiration. I have planned for the ETLIII to aid the sons of the Lion by adding atleast a tactical squad, a terminator squad (maybe) and a chaplain to my forces (probably an Asmodai count as). But Im curious to what I can create as a count as for the blades of reason, for those of you who dont know what it is here is the description and rules from the DA codex:

The Blades of Reason: This is an ancient and horrific

Ive been looking through the most horrific portable torture equipment (and felt very evil doing it ) but I couldnt really find anything specific. My main idea so far is a kind of flail with chains and hooks. So, any ideas brothers?

Well, I just made my vow for the E Tenebrae Lux: a squad of deathwing terminators, a tactical squad and a count-as Asmodai. I will start working on the vow as soon as I finish the current tactical squad.

I bring a bit of bad news. A bit of real life problems appeared that might include a big expense from my part so Im not sure if I will be able to participate in the first month (or at all) in the ETL. Which also means this army might grow a bit stagnant until I know if I can expand it. Also, I can finish the marine carrying the plasma cannon because Im missing one of his arms and wont be able to build him until I get a spare part.

But on the bright side I will most likely be finishing a marine this afternoon and posting pictures today/tomorrow.

But nonetheless I have just discovered that I have enough spare parts to mount 1, maybe 2, marines. So thats something to keep me for a while. I wont be painting them in the GotC heraldy but rather other chapters. I will post pictures of them, not to worry, I just dont know what chapters heraldy to use.
