Tempestus Strike Force

Hi,

Started up a Tempestus force earlier this week with the intention of using them along side my Crimson Fists, as either thd Primary or Allied force.

To fit with my Crimson Fist's basing scheme these guys will also be set in urban terran/bases which led me to paint them in grey camo. I like the idea of the Stormtrooper force skulking through the city ruins and utilising the cover while the Marines stride across open ground, proudly displaying their colours and fighting the foe head-on.

Anyway enough rambling, pics-

That camo scheme is sweet. Care to share how you painted it?

Looking forward to seeing more! smile.png

No problem.

Based with Eshin Grey

Layer of Dawnstone in patches (on the Scion I did 'blob' shapes, since then I've been carefully stippling the pattern, looks much better)

Layer of Chaos black

Layer of Skull White

It helps having a reference image to see how the different colours interact with each other.

Hope that's helpful Ludo. :)

Looks strangely familiar

Does it? I'll admit I do post in various other places. Heresy! tongue.png

Not my place to hijinx you showing off your work, but if anyone were to happen to look in my gallery area they might find a decent number of infantry and vehicles painted very similarly to yours. This is not the place to discuss them(there is a place in Hall of Honor) so i'll leave it at that.

I think its awesome that people are willing to paint camo on their infantry because its a nice break from the normal, flat color on cloth, flat color on armor, basecoat wash on skin, rinse and repeat. You almost had my convinced that getting the Taurox might be worth it with the paintjob on it, and that may still happen if I find a third party tracks to wheels conversion kit so it looks like what it is imitating, a MRAP.

I'll be sure to have a look through your gallery. ;)

WarriorFish- I'll post soon as I finish them. Bought the plastic Commisar so I'll be converting him next.

Love the night vision.  The camo looks AMAZING on the truck, but meh on the trooper...maybe if the weapon were not painted with camo, too, that would help.

Maybe I should paint the gun barrel black or dark metal?

I would do the casing, shroud for the barrel, muzzle brake, and optic in black, with metal showing in the recesses just for the sake of speed.  That said, the camo on the weapon is not out of place from a real world perspective., but you may consider a black basecoat with less camo coverage, to represent a more personalized "trooper did this himself" appearance but that is just my .02 on the idea, if you like the camo the way it is, do it.

Hmmm, maybe a mix of black and ones with camo throughout the squads? I'll try a black gun casing next to see how it looks.

Here is my Commisar Lord converted to fit with my Stormtroopers. Simple conversion, swapped the standard head with a Scion helmet and added the plastic peaked cap. Swapped the sword blade for the nicer one in the Scion box.

It's not that camo on the guns is bad fluff or anything (although only rednecks and snipers do it in the real world), it's mainly just that it works too well, its outline is broken up so effectively that it blends in with the rest of the model and the whole thing looks like a plate of meatloaf. In real life, so long as it matches the background, that's fantastic! For tabletop wargame miniatures, it makes it hard to tell that you have more painting skill than the average eight-year-old...which you obviously do, you just have to look really close to see it. In other words, it works too well!!!

Ha ha, you do have a point. I think I will break up the camo by painting the casing black, but I'll leave the camo on the barrel so they can poke their guns through windows without being spotted. :P
