Sisters of Battle (The Never Ending Plog)

Recommended Posts

Ok so just got back from the tournament.

Good results, out of the 5, I won 4, drew one.

The Emperor was surely watching over me.

In the end standings i was 3rd, we used a Swiss system and in the end the Person who came second I beat but he helped organize the tournament (I call shenanigans! msn-wink.gif ) and the winner I drew against but there was allot of sourness about this player over the entire two days of gaming which i will explain in another post.

Either way though, saw some serious gameyness and will get the lists I faced up later along with battle reports.

Painting wise, I got second.

The army that won was a full converted Grot force to be imperial guard which was the last 5 years in the making. tongue.png

The end of Tournament standing, only finished today so still waiting on points:

1 Eric Hoath (Necron & Eldar Daemon Summoning)
2 Scott Hays (Space Wolf Drop Pods with Allied Space Marines, Inquisitors & Deathstorm Drop Pods)
3 Craig Duke Young (Sisters of Battle, Imperial Knight, Imperial Guard, Assassin)
4 Richard Lloyd (Guard and Blood Angels Flying Cirus with Drop Pods)
5 Jay JR Atherton (Tau)
6 Richard Footer (Tau)
7 Gavin Wilson (Tyranids)
8 Andrew Hopper (Eldar Horn/ Wave Serpent Spam with Wraith Knights)
9 Michael Botterill (Space Wolf Drop Pod Army)
10 Graham Mills (Chaos Typus Zombie List With Warhound Titan Standing on a Skyshield)
11 Jonathon 'Jon Jon' Smith (Necrons)
12 Henry McCoig (Ultra Marines Drop Pod Army)
13 Ryan Taylor (Space Wolves Thunder Wolves List)
14 Adam Calver (Imperial Guard Grot Army)
15 Andrew Parr (Grey Knights and Imperial Knights)
16 Kwill Hendas (Khorne Deamonkin)
17 Steven Burden (Imperial Guard, Tempestus Scions, Blood Angels Drop Pod & Deep Strike list)
18 Harry Welsh (Imperial Fists Terminator Army)
19 Joel Blakemore (Salamanders)
20 Liam Howie (Imperial Guard)
21 Colin Richardson (Orks)
22 Scott Rutherford (Praetorian Imperial Guard)

But no, just a quick picture of my force below (i'll explain the list later as I'm tired as all hell and my legs hurt) and a few of the other forces as well.

That's some cool looking armies there. As far as the guy in 2nd place i'm not sure what him helping organize the thing has to do with rankings. I never been to tournaments before does that happen often?

Congrats on your wins. thumbsup.gif

Best for me not to get into a rant over it, either way lets just say they had a very bias opinion in allot of matters which was due to their own self interest and leave it there.

Where as I am working on an Elysian Guard force totting 9 Flyers in 1850 points but Priority is my sisters (as it always should be).

That said I need to paint another 700 points to be pure sisters.

Likely Avenger, 2 more Immolator squads, Dominor Repressor Squad and either a 3rd Exorcist or a Retributor squad with Simulacrum.

After that 2 seraphim squads with stern and I will rest they a little while.

Firstly, I have seen many events where tournament organisers are involved in the tournament themselves... I've even seen them win a few times. Can be pretty dodgy but generally there is little foul play going on. If it did seem bad though you would be well within your rights to mention it afterwards so the tourney hosts can avoid such things in future events. I'm sure others took issue with it too.

Secondly, the grot army played by Adam Calver is one I have played against several times. He also has a Grey Knights counts as Pre-heresy Thousand sons army, and is a member of my old club... small world when it comes to 40k tongue.png

Thirdly, Daemon summoning Eldar is the embodiment of my (admittedly few) issues with 7th Edition. Freedom is great and all but come on...

Finally! Well done DDM smile.png The Emperor has rewarded your faith and diligence.

Cheers for the congrats guys, still a long way to go however.

Think I'll do the Avenger next, little confused about doing the pilots though.

Sure i have a few sister parts somewhere but the model convert would be a royal pain.

I'll get a thread up for battle reports later.

Well done, great to see you hitting the table and more importantly doing well! The banners of the Sisterhood fly ever higher :)

A long way to go you say? Of course, for we can not rest until every enemy of the Emperor lays dead at our feet ;)

Good call on his force, only lost best painted to him but if he is known for beauty like this i can live with that. msn-wink.gif

Got a few extra pictures as well from the weekend of one or two mid games but think I will do the battle reports first.

My Sisters force:

Kings of the North
Fortress Monistary Velheim
The rain fell steadily as a thin mist rose from the sea to cover the land; a sudden gust of wind flung the chilly droplets against the exposed skin of Amelia`s face. She had lifted the hinged visor of her helmet to gaze across the empty waters. The full suit of armor he wore clung to her slight 5'3” frame like Scripture to her mind. Just like a Heretic with beady eyes fixed on her bolter, the armor fit Amelia like a glove to form a second skin of sorts. She found it uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Long ago had she become immune to the heavy plates and robes along with the smiles and well wishes of her male allies, their grins attempting to hide not so innocent intentions.
The workmanship of his suit was superb; it was an expensive investment, but a necessary one. Due to her station, it was much more decorated than those he commanded, but the general idea remained the same. Survival. The armor sported delicate filigree work in silver and black. It was fanciful, but did not detract from the fierce appearance of the Superior. Wicked spires twisted from the shoulder guards announcing his intent on the battlefield. Power Armoured Gauntlets protected the sister`s fists and forearms waiting for the first opportunity to spring into action, the drone of her Armour's power core speaking of a suit eager to do the God Emperors will.
Trained from a tender age to fight the enemies of the Imperium, the Sister was far from green in combat. Highly skilled in knife-play, Amelia made effective use of a pair of her trusty Chainsword as well as the not so trusty plasma pistol gifted to her by her old superior now years ago. She had received it as a write of passage some may say given onto her in the heat of battle as the last of her sister strength flowed out of her before she had joined the Emperor at his side, for this reason it was her most prized possessions. In the years since she had began to make a name for herself. Superior Amelia was not prideful and did not savor this fact, however, it was the young sisters duty to keep the Emperors peace and this had to be paid for with blood as she knew only too well. Her Sisters respected their leader`s battle prowess, control, and determination, this they repaid with a undying loyalty.
Days had become perilous to say the least. Remaining vigilant was key. Barbarian raids had slowly become too common for comfort. Wetting her chain blade with the blood of the enemy had replaced training in the Battle Monistary.
The day was grey as an old mans beard long. Though it was common weather for er native land that the sun had chose to hide away on this particular day did not surprise the young Sister. Her spirit was bleak and matched the surroundings perfectly. Even the salty, sea air was not enough to clear Amelia's head nor temper her mood. The crash of waves against the high cliff she stood perched upon did not sooth his nerves as usual. She wondered briefly if her Cannones had sent him away from her normal duties, away from her, purposely on this patrol. Did he want me gone for this date? Amelia knew this was not true, but merely a coincidence and chastised herself for such thoughts immediately, it was not her place to second guess the intentions of her superiors. Still, he could not dismiss the question. The heavy odor of burning herbs and incense replaced the tangy sea air as memories rose up unbidden to transport him to an earlier time.
Amelia crouched in the shadows of his mother`s chambers and peered out into the darkened room lit only by a handful of squat candles made of tallow. The smoke rose from them to mingle with the noxious perfumes of the stuffy quarters. The skirts of her servants whisked and whooshed as the women made themselves busy applying cool rags and smelly poultices to his mother`s scorching skin. The woman whom had been so full of life and pink cheeked only a handful of months prior was now reduced to a shade of her former self. Skeletal, the bed housing the Duchess, looked as if it was waiting to swallow her up as surely as this disease was consuming her.
The Girl only crept forward after the monk called forth to administer prayers of protection for his mother`s soul had departed and the women took their leave for a brief respite. He approached her as quietly as the eleven year old Amelia found possible; she was quickly growing into a woman and was finding her new body still traitorous and awkward to negotiate at times.
Her mother`s eyes were closed; the grey orbs Amelia shared with her had been shut away from the world, shut away from her daughter. This wasting disease had stolen the woman`s healthy glow and replaced it with a sickening pallor. It left her weak and retching up the tidbits of food her ladies in waiting forced between the thin, cracked strips of flesh his mothers full, soft pout had withered away to.
Ignoring the advice of the local medicine man and attending clergymen, the girl reached for her mother`s bony hand and grasped the fevered flesh in his cool. Amelia feared not touching his mother more than polluting himself with her sickness. How could she deny her of this simple act of love? She froze as she stirred afraid she had disturbed her. She sighed softly before a moan struggled to the surface as a tremor shook the woman. Immediately regretting causing her pain, she carefully began to release his hold. Amelia`s eyes widened in surprise as the Duchess suddenly grasped his slender fingers with a fierceness while fluttering the sparse lashes of her eyes. She remained still and waited for what seemed an eternity before she managed to speak.
“My Daughter,” the words were faint and fought to slice through the oppressive atmosphere of the bedchambers. “My darling girl.” The rattle of chains of death shook her chest. A cough, a life stealer and death agent, wracked the woman. She flinched; sorrow filled her soul as he was helpless to ease her mothers pain.
“Mother, I am here,” Amelia whispered back unsure of what to say. The young girl had never experienced death so close to home. She had never lost one that was so close to her heart. Many in land had fallen to this illness before. She had no reason to believe her mother would escape the shared fate of the other victims. Of course she still held out a small hope she would avoid the grave. Why should she not? She was strong, had always been strong, and was her mother. The Emperor could spare her, should spare her. The Duchess was devout, charitable, and kind. There were so many more deserving of this infliction. Why should she be punished? Why should she?
The cough finally stopped and a small smile stretched across her mouth. Amelia`s words appeared to appease her. Claret stained his mothers lips redder than any gloss or rouge she once wore during feasts and court frivolity. A peaceful look painted her angelic face and her beaten body relaxed. The locks of gold that crowned her head laid fanned out across a pillow and inspired the image of a halo. Death itself had been unable to strip the Duchess of her last remaining glory. The girl rejoiced in that knowledge and returned her smile. As quickly as she was there then she was gone; her hand fell away from her own and once again sleep claimed her. Her mother returned to the mystery of slumber; she returned to the land in which she could not be reached by mortals.
The chamber door opened to briefly flood the interior with light from beyond it. Duke Jerek Godwin, Amelia`s father, strode in along with a handful of servants and armed guards. The girl jumped back away from the bed and hung his head in shame. She was not supposed to be here. She was to be with her tutors. Rarely had she disobeyed a direct order from her father, she waited to be rebuked. Instead his father ruffled Amelia`s blond locks with an indulgent smile and allowed the women to shoo her into the hallway.
From the never ending night of his mother`s chambers to the startling sunshine of the day, she went. Amelia fled the beams of reality and ignored the sympathetic looks and clucks of the inhabitants of her home to dive into the security of her own chambers. There the girl flung himself onto the bed to weep into a pillow and allow her soul to spill out in a scream that she would never submit to again.
The Angel of Death came for her that day. It swept tattered wings of black along her mothers body, breathed it`s fiery breath upon her, and stole her mother away along with the last remnants of Amelia`s childhood leaving only after its destruction was complete.
The screech of a seabird brought her back to the present. Scowling, Amelia resisted the urge to peer over the edge of the cliff and watch the frothy foam gather and wash up along the rocky beach below. Instead she turned a piercing eye to the horizon.
Rolling hills now speckled brown as the approach of winter marched against the land filled his vision. It seemed to span from here to forever, although she knew this wasn`t the case. Amelia was not so ignorant nor naive enough to believe the world ended at the doorstep of her home. Dutchess Amelia Wilhelm Godwin, daughter and only living heir of Duke Jerek Godwin or else she would of been if war had not took her father and seen her turned over to the care of the clergy, what could of been flashed before her eyes in an instant, she could of rules but instead she served. this she would have no other way for now she did the Emperors work and in doing so avenged the loss of her parents a little more with each act, the methods of which her parents were taken may of differed but none the less it was chaos which was the architect of her life's ruin, only fitting then the name it bore matched the impact it had on her own small life.
Casting a glance over her shoulder, her sisters stood ready and silent awaiting the word to break camp. “We move,” Amelia called out loud enough of all to hear. The driver of their Repressor scurried to make ready the transport as a cheer rose up from her sisters. They would make haste to get home in time for the arrival of Air Marshal Konrad Von Eberhardt and if rumour was true he had brought with him a terrifying weapon to use against their foes. Her Canoness would also be anxious to get firsthand reports of the skirmishes breaking out in their territory. There were some troubling rumors Uperior Amelia wished to speak to her in private about as well. Not a superstitious type, the sister was not sure of what to make of the outlandish tales sweeping across the countryside, but too many reliable sources had sworn they were true and if what she feared was true the hand of chaos hand made itself known in the lands once more. Her frown deepened and she pushed the disturbing thoughts away. Her mood was black enough. The matter could wait until she spoke with the Canoness. It was time to return to the fortress on the coast she called home.

Game 1 deployment say use playing length ways with my foe camping in the distance to keep as much cover as possible hunkering down for a ranged fight knowing most my weaponry was short range.

The Imperial Knight Stalked up center field fixing the Salamanders in sight flanked by a powerful but evenly split sisters armoured column, so as not to give the foe any advantage on either side of the field guaranteeing that the foes of the emperor could be driven under the treads of our tanks.

4 of the 6 game objectives are close to the foe, only 2 on near ground.

This made little difference as one was in heavy cover just ahead of our Elysian allies forward sentries, the only true on foot element of the entire force.

The vindicare assassin hiding at long range but nothing able to escape his terrifying range.

Salamander deployment was mostly hunkered down in ruins, Land Speeders and tanks up front, rest hiding in cover or behind the aegis, the Thunderfire cannon itself in the ruins.

Sisters Turn 1:

Taking the first turn the sisters quickly capitalized moving the knight up center field striking fear into the heart of the foe, both flanks tanks over charging engines to keep up with the exception of the exorcists and repressor hanging back to guard the rear.

Letting loose the first shot of the game Saint Celestine knew that a message had to be sent in order to strike fear into the hearts of those who would turn their gaze from the emperors light.

Giving the Vindicare leave to send that message he let loose a shot straight into the techmarine skulking in the ruins hiding behind his cannon where he thought was safe, the round easily passing through his Helmets eye lense guaranteeing a swift first blood.

Whilst the opening round sent the foe a clear indicator of what was to come the exorcists and knight sought to future show what this meant, whittling down his devs to 6 men even behind their cowards cover and the knights mighty thermal cannon killing half the tactical squad forcing them to immediately fall back.

Salamanders Turn 1:

Having allowed the knight to advance ahead of my main force slightly had made him a clear target as he was making a bee line for vulkan and their armour, this was exactly what the sisters had hoped to do, making him a obvious target that could take the punishment and if the worst came to pass he was far enough way from the sisters themselves that his death would only take the foe with him.

That said the pilot was no fool and knew his role well and had placed himself with this in mind in ruins, crashing through their walls so as to bolster his own cover even as the foes land speeders screamed towards his mighty frame only to be joined by Salamander stern guard eagerly descending their drop pods assault ramps from behind.

All in all he had the entire foe lower their guns and let loose no less than 11 melta rounds, 4 autocannon rounds, 1 plasma cannon round and 4 missiles straight at him to which all struck home only to splash harmlessly of his ion shield with a single exception of a late lascannon round which torn a glancing blow from his armoured visor.

Sisters Turn 2:

The Salamander lines awestruck by the seemingly unharmed knight now were thrown into chaos, the repressor and exorcists that had hung back now revealed their true intent as the rest of the force moved up as air support now lent its hand to their advance, the tanks opened fire on the stern guard and their drop pod, two felled by the pods explosion alone.

Only one was spared the slaughter having dove to ground as his allies died all around him.

The Twin land speeders found themselves tore in two by a vengeful knight all along his thermal cannon punching through their landraider like wet paper, only a single servitor and techmarine leaving the wreck with their lives.

Elsewhere in the force tanks moved up to open fire whittling down squads with multi meltas, forward sentries taking pride of place on the nearest objective they helped lay down more fire against the foe bringing their total number to less than a third of the starting force.

Only two units remained unharmed as of yet, Vulkans Razorback and a single Landspeeder who thus far had evaded every round sent its way.

Salamander turn 2:

Preparing for a valiant last stand vulkan jumped out the back of his transport along side his squad, covered by the Armoured frame and the knight being charged by a furious tech marine, heart broken over the loss of such a chapter relic.

Once more all fire against the knight was shrugged off, old mistakes not learned from... the sisters were under estimated and this would cost the traitor their lives.

All enemy small arms fire found its way against the sentries, useless against the armour 4 of them fell but held firm, this was a desperate gambit by the foe, the last sternguard marine trying to let loose a reactive round at them out of pettiness for his fallen comrades and shamed for his earlier cowardice died in an instant screaming when his ammo ignited in his bolter barrel.

The fool hardy tech marine did not fare any better, battered aside before he could even strike, his armour caved in before his remaining servitor was crushed beneath the feet of the knight as it marched tirelessly on.

Sisters Turn 3:

Having been content to sit back prior due to the lack of any real targets the Vindicare decided to act once more before the foe grew to believe they could possibly win some small victory today on this field.

That would not happen, here they would lose their entire force, their corpses feeding the scavenger the only payment they could expect to receive for their trouble.

Loosing a turbo penetrator round it torn through the remaining land speeders engine causing the craft to ignite in a bright plumb of flame sending it crashing to the ground.

Veterans a little to eager to get to the earth on wings of fire hit the ground running with the exception of one of their number who broke their legs on landing taking him out of the fight.

His over over eagerness his downfall.

All along the line sisters were climbing from tanks, weapons lowered slaughtering the Salamanders to a man, Heavy flamer and melta washing over them, even the Mighty Razorback was engulfed by the thermal cannon killing 2 of the enemy commanders squad before the knights heavy stubber claimed another two.

All hope had drained from vulkans eyes by this point, his men were dead, his only ally was his brother Sargent, and that said as mighty as vulkan himself was he could not hope to harm the knight, only his ally could with his power fist.

Meeting the knights charge head on he took the brunt of the knight blows but it was to be for nothing, his ally was caught square in the chest with a killing blow before vulkan himself was in turn was scooped up with childlike ease and crushed for a total of 17 wounds, 15 of those unsaved.

The sisters had won a swift and decisive battle and not a single sister had lost their lives.

Truely their aim was guided by the Emperor on this day...

Alas this was only the beginning however, other foes were to be found on their land, desecrating their holy sights in their search for technology and holy relics, these had been entrusted to the Sisters of Battle by the Ecclesiarchy its self and no one had any right to try and take it from them.

Even so called allies had come looking to gain from their misfortune, luckily xenos and chaos had also come to lay claim and in the infighting they would all be destroyed, Traitor or loyalist, none of them had any right and anyone who sought to steal from the Church of the God Emperor would be at the moercy of the Holy Trinity...

Cheers for the congrats guys, still a long way to go however.

Think I'll do the Avenger next, little confused about doing the pilots though.

Sure i have a few sister parts somewhere but the model convert would be a royal pain.

I'll get a thread up for battle reports later.

Really nice Ballte Report ! Can't wait for the other 4!biggrin.png

As for the avenger Pilots, i'd suggest the Immolator turrets, if you haven't glued that sister together. They fit quite nicely although i remember doing a few modifications. I think i used the torso with trimmed shoulder pads, IIRC.

That i was planning, just going to be a tight squeese, sure with some heavy converting I can manage it though. ;)

So after the tournament a Few updates are due for my force I think and where as i said I wanted to fit the Avenger over the Vendetta I still do need to scale down due to not playing 2k at other tournaments.

The norm being 1850 it looks likely I will have to trim the Assassin and go down to a basic HQ so as to fit the second repressor filled with dominors (though not against other options suck as taking the assassin anyway and getting a few bits of gear for my HQ)

I am still considering at adding 4 Combi Plasmas for my troop squads, 40 points across all 4 but I think the extra pain they bring will help.

In regards to other points however I still wish to bring a knight when not running a pure sisters force.

This is mainly due to the effectiveness at covering the holes in the sisters force where we struggle and just in gerneral how survivable they are.

That said any knight at the very least is a huge bullet Magnet and this means I can roll forwards without too much fire going into my tanks and other transports which is where the main scoring comes from.

The knight I am considering is the Cerastus Knight Acheron.

Full rules on the FW site here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/A/Acheron.pdf

The Huge flamer template screams sisters and its speed allows it to close quickly for combat, the only other that tempted my was in fact the lancer which has a invun in combat, +1 Initiative on the charge and makes it harder for other models of his size to strike him.

That said I am unsure on preference for the list for my painting.

Anyone care to advise?

Goddamn, tabled the Salamanders without losing anybody on the Sister's side. :O

Here I was thinking you'd have trouble with him rerolling saves against your flamers.

As for Knight support, I find that any Knight is good because they become a fire-magnet, ensuring that the Sisters can roll up and hit where they hurt the most. That being said, I'd go for the Errant since it is cheapest, but then again I haven't seen what the other Knights can do.

If you have a look on the FW website allot of them have the rules on the product pages as they are not yet published.

Also I posted the one I was considering above.

Its 45 points more than the one I took on the weekend but its compliments the force better I feel.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/A/Acheron.pdf

I know, thats whats tempting me, its stupid run speed and rerolling 1's against armour just make it that much better as well.

Besides If I can make it fancy it should be beautiful and make my have my preset tournament force for sisters.

Anyway the next battle report should be up tonight at some point.

Game 2, Space Wolves, Ultra Marines and Inquisition.

Now I'm tempted to get one for myself as well :P

It does look like the Acheron is the Knight that fits Sisters best. Besides, nobody can complain if it looks fabulous enough. I like how the chest plates are reminiscent of our boobplates.

Great showing and great batrep btw, looking forward to the rest!

Your models look great sir, and the other fellas stuff looks ok too, even those stupid Xenos scum Eldar.   From the looks of it he has a super cheese list too, like a boss....  Anyway, well played and nicely done on the super awesome paint jobs all around.  I dig the knight paint job too!  Dig the battle report for sure!!

-Brett

Seems i have got a little distracted and have not got the second report yet.

This is mainly due to trying to find my opponents list so I don't have to work for memory, either way it should be up tomorrow at some point.

In the meanwhile however I have been trying to get a little more painting done, just started but i think you can guess my intention.

http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/pp222/DukeDanseMacambre/IMG_09871.jpg

Just got all caught up on your tourney showing:

Awesome sauce at placing third! Who needs power creep when you have Faith!

Second: Necrons & Eldar summoning Daemons. Pretty sure i puked a bit into my mouth when I reas that...

Good thing the Eldar rumours are showing that they'll no longer have access to Daemonology (Malefic) for any Personal Exterminatus-worthy Shenanigans.

Third: Acheron is a solid choice. Ap3 hellstorm flamer, S:D chainfist and a TL heavy bolter. Couple that with a 3d6 run. Whats not to love? (Except maybe for its slightly silly looking helmet)

Fourth and finally: the avenger is looking awesome!
