Color Scheme Conundrum

Hi All,

Trying to decide on color scheme here. My old color scheme is Space Wolf Grey & Red. It looks good, but a little subdued. Unless you're at ideal lighting condition, it's difficult to see.

The new color scheme will be more striking. My basic idea is like this:

I have a few concerns on this.

First is all the black. I'm considering changing the black armor to space wolf grey. Visibility will increase dramatically, but at the cost of the beautiful stark contrast between red/black.

Second is the shoulder pad lining. The aquila will be silver, but I'm not sure whether the shoulder pad lining will be silver too. If black it looks great.

So two things: Should I change the black (except for weapons casing to shadow grey), and should the lining stay silver, or turn black?

Also accepting any other suggestions.

(FYI, having my marines painted as Ultramarines is also high on my list...)

I think that combo looks great, the black isn't overly dominating so with a solid paint job I should look fine. It breaks it up well having the silver lining on the pauldrins. I usually go with a rule of thumb for colour combos as one or two dominating colours (depending on your chapter) and a trim, as in your case; red, black, silver.

Another alternative if you're worried about the black being to 'dead' is paint black parts Mephiston Red and wash it twice with Nuln Oil. It will be almost black but not quite and can be highlighted with a very dark red (maybe 2:1 Mephiston Red to Abbadon Black). It would give you your dark parts with a little bit of colour highlight to help them stand out. I do this on my Flesh Tearers and it works great.
