scatmandoo
Now I appreciate this may be a silly question but how can a basilisk be useful with a minimum range of 36" and a manticore with a minimum of 24"? Am I missing something? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289865-basilisk-question/ Share on other sites
Andhil
Basilisks may use direct fire, meaning they ignore the minimum range, but also lose Barrage. basically, you're firing the Earthshaker as a Battle Cannon. Straight ahead. Not sure if the Manticore may do the same though. Straight ahead. Not sure if the Manticore may do the same though. Unless the codex readded this rule that is wrong, direct fire does not exist as a rulebook rule anymore. Instead, if you fire within your minimum range you simply don't get your bs factored in as if you were firing without line of sight. If your not firing within your minimum you get your bs so long as you have line of sight. Edit: It's listed in the Barrage rule itself now. Andhil
I stand corrected. But wow! that's even better. Barrage is nasty. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289865-basilisk-question/#findComment-3658702 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
May I direct you to this topic? It's a little out of date now the new codex is out, but all that's different is the loss of the Griffon (and it's rules). Maybe we should update it? Bassies are your friend, my two are inseparable and always go around together. I like to obliterate enemy tanks with them as there's nowhere to hide! scatmandoo
Thanks for the replys all. It appears that the basilisk isn't quite the wasted tank it appeared. Thoqqu
After browsing for a while this one seems to be relevant enough of a topic for this question: Why do Manticore and Deathstrike have minimum range? Codex states that both can fire only indirectly. Indirect fire ignores min range restrictions? Thoqqu
I'm lost in tought but I try to elaborate on my question. Stormshard has no min range. Can fire directly to max range or indirectly barrage out of los. Earthshaker has min range. Can fire directly between min and max range or indirectly barrage (out of los/within min range). Deathstrike missile and storm eagle rockets have special mention in their profile that they "cannot fire directly". Why is the min range listed when it has no purpose for these two weapons? Or is there 3 ways to shoot? Without barrage, direct barrage within range limits and indirect barrage? WarriorFish
Read this topic. There are two ways of firing; normally as with every other unit or as a barrage weapon. Either they did a poor job updating the codex (since you mentioned the Stormshard I'm assuming this is directly from the new book) and forgot to take out the mention of direct fire. (Which was a 5th ed rule) Otherwise maybe the missiles never get their BS but GW didn't explain it very well when they wrote it so didn't actually make the rule work. (Since again Direct and Indirect fire do not 'exist' as seperate rules) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289865-basilisk-question/#findComment-3660606 Share on other sites
Thoqqu
Thanks warriorfish but I did read that before posting. I'm most likely making an issue out of nothing and the problem lies with poor codex design like Lysere pointed out. It's just the nuanches one can find in sentences.
