So I've been thinking about the next step in my tragic progression into forming a proper fighting fit heresy army. I kind of want a loyalist force, I have some death guard but my buzz on them is slowly dying and I'll perhaps just use them as an ally force.

 

Anyway to the point, I was thinking of the Ultramarines, more specifically the break down of them and how they turn into the countless chapters. From Know No Fear which strongly indicated the the 6th Company lead by Saur Damocles could potentially become the Iron Snakes Chapter, I was wondering whether this is a common occurrence.

 

This got me thinking about the Scythes of the Emperor possibly coming from the world of the beacon in Unremembered Empire. Maybe I could do this with one of the other chapters? perhaps the Aurora Chapter or the Praetors of Orpheus or something, how would their emblems be integrated, would the eventually chapter colour be the prominent colour on the company pad or perhaps it would just be the emblem on the traditional blue pad.

 

Anyway I hope you get what I'm on about. After seeing the work done on the Iron Hands legion in other threads, that really adds some depth to their own clan etc I was thinking of doing something similar for another legion that has room for so much diverseness.

I could see mortifactors arising due to calth perhaps, though I don't know their founding. A skull is pretty easy to integrate. For praetors you could get the stars on the same pad as the symbol as an honour marking?

Genesis Chapter were the first chapter created following the HH, the leading veterans of the Ultramarines became the Genesis Chapter. :)

Saur Damocles and his boys becoming Scythes seems pretty common. FW got the Executioner's axe linked to Seneschal Rann's company.

 

The company marking can be placed in a lot of places, corner of a pauldron, on a boarding shield, on the chest, on the vambrace. Sky's the limit. Just look at the fists.

 

As for the colour, it really up to you, I wouldn't and just keep the blue. Maybe check out the First heretic, ADB describes Aethon company, 19th Ultras company on page 49. They are a nice hook to make a chapter out of, commanding their own expedition fleet. Symbol is a fire breathing horse or something. Humbled the WB also. Maybe also look at where campaign markings are placed.

 

The thing is thought that if you wanna be accurate, you probably have to wait as if anyone is a stickler for markings its the Ultras. 2nd ed has each marking mean something. So who knows how FW will play it. Plus they will probably have Tac arrows etc.

Yeah I got the feeling they'd have the chapter emblem on one shoulder, the squad markings on the other and perhaps the company emblem on the knee pad/shield etc.

 

Also Saur Damocles would become part of the Iron Snakes, not the Scythes.

I am pretty sure they are setting up Warsmith Dantioch to be the leader of the Silver Skulls.

Hello and sorry for the minor threadomancy. I saw this awhile ago, but I was in lurk mode at the time so I didn't get a chance to post. I really like this idea a lot. It's especially catchy to me because I am a massive Iron Snakes fan and would love to hear what is said in KNF. What 2nd Founding Chapter are you looking to integrate into the theme? I think it's a fantastic idea and something I myself may look into when the Calth book finally rolls around and I start grabbing models. Let me know if you've gone any further with it.
