1st Legion/purge of thunder warriors? (Ramble)

So this is just something I theorized and rolled around in my head about the disappearance of the Thunder Warriors and the secrecy of the Dark Angels Legion even before reuniting with their primarch.

Now this will lack evidence unfortunately until we get their background from Forgeworld and/or a well written Dark Angels HH novel (Abnett I'm looking at you). However, I'm speculating that the necessitated secrecy and hesitance to work with other legions is a result of the 1st Legion obliterating the majority of the thunder warriors - some like Tyranis and the ones on the asteroid, were able to escape - at the whim of the emperor and to harden themselves to the idea of fighting dissident remnants of humanity.

Considering that the 1st Legion was on its way to the crusade while Horus was still taking father son fishing trips, they would've likely been the tool the Emperor personally used in the late unification wars and early crusade while the other legions were being assembled.

Now this is only speculation as toward what the 1st Legion fluff might hint at in the future, but what do you guys think about it? I'm not trying to make them seem like special snowflakes, or the original, original, *original* executioners :P (move aside War Hounds and Wolves!!!) but trying to draw a connection between the disappearance/purge of the remaining thunder warriors and the origins of the 1st.

What do you think?

Not to say the DA aren't up to their usual here, but didn't the thunder warriors generally come with a built in sell by date (outcast dead?) Soif the DA were doing any culling it was of folk that were generally going to die anyway? Not saying the DA aren't heroes of course ;)

Yes and normally if agree with you, but as we have also seen in Outcast Dead, two have survived 200+ years as well. Also in Betrayal, a group of *outlawed* thunder warriors are alive and stir up trouble in a prison colony, only to have the war hounds unleashed upon them.

Not only that, but it seems that the Emperor had a reason to rid himself of the Thunder Warriors than see them continue fighting to the death in the crusade.

Well there are those exceptions to the rule granted, my line of thinking was the higher percentage would have died, so if killing was to be done, it wouldn't be as much as if they weren't built to die if you get where I'm heading. Or the Angels took them to the galaxy with them to die.

Considering the War Hounds involvement with renegade Thunder Warriors though, it is safe to assume that there must have been some overlap.

It is notable that most Legions were in active service before the end of the Unification Wars on Terra.

It is Saresk to assume? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

It is safe to assume.

And that is why I stopped adding words to the auto-correct, because they are given priority over everything else and easily slip in if you aren't paying attention. There have been many times that B&C's swear filter has caught me when I never even intended to swear.

Edit: Like typing 'is' and it assumes you meant 'Lia.'
