Has anyone tried the Victory is Vengence rules from Extermination?
I like the idea of it, its a nice twist on Kill Team and my group are thinking about trying it out, just for a bit of fun.

We're all experienced players, but we are a bit worried we'd spend most of out time with our heads in the book..
Just wondering if anyones tried it and what it was like to play

You start off with 150 pts of character models - these can be sergeants or anyone who would counts as a character (Chosen Warriors for example). You only get up to three character's like this, and one is designated the Leader. He is your main character so to speak, the one who gets stat increases as the campaign continues (which are pretty much just a +1 to majority of stats, that's it.)

Everything is bought on a one by one basis (so you don't buy a ten man tac squad, you buy one tac marine!). Best bit, is that you can mix and match Legions if you so wish. My group is already forming several bands - one is an Istvaan V survivor group, considering of a Raven Guard Recon Marine, a IH Techmarine and a Salamander Apothecary.

Though there is a wound chart of sorts, there are no dead results, just debuffs. Debuffs which can be removed by taking on a penance objective in the next game -  a special objective that if achieved (like killing an enemy in a challenge), removes the dishonor from your character. And those debuffs can stack so...

Sorry for the ramble, haven't got the book on me at the moment (since I'm at work), but those are the highlights I remember.

It's also got an interesting campaign metagame that utilises resource management.

At the end of a game you generate "supply points" which you can spend on "ammo", "personnel" and "armour" resources. Simply put, the more supply points you spend, the better the resource becomes. Conversely if you fail to spend over a certain number of supply points then the particular resource degrades (giving various penalties like difficult ammo rolls and movement restrictions depending on the resource).

It looks like a really cool system and I'm itching to try it out.

played our first games this monday actually. pretty cool. be sure to have at least 2 mission objectives for every player per game (we had 1 rolled for both, 1 each drawn secretly), or you will have trouble paying your upkeeps. mechanicum units rock (castellax, ursarax, myrmidon destructors).

I completely forgot people might not have it yet, FW weekender has spoiled me..so I also guess people havent seen the updates for the Crusade lists then?

Well yeah its a fancy Kill Team basically..for 30k...but our man above has ust about covered it...

It's a great system from what I can tell, and perfect for representing Shattered Legion war bands and small conflicts from other battles. Off the top of my head it is a great way to represent the Garro sub-plot, the Underworld War on Calth, and the Survivors of Isstvan III. I'm considering doing a Shattered Legion and Isstvan III loyalist force, to scratch the itch of wanting to do every legion.
