WS 5, I5, A2 base would be almost a given, and WS6/I6 wouldnt shock me at all.

You mean simply going by The First Heretic? There's also Blood Games and Outcast Dead. You might not like them but they're all official Horus Heresy series entries

 

Do keep in mind that one individual beating another individual in a sparring session (or even one individual killing several other individuals) is not particularly indicative of how an average Custodian matches up against an average Marine.

 

A White Scar in Little Horus carves his way through a dozen Sons of Horus after slicing off half of Aximand's face. Does that mean the average White Scar craps all over the average Son of Horus?

I can see them with a 2+ save, WS5, A2, maybe S5, T5. Though I could see them staying at S4, T4 and having their weapon give +1 S.
